OK, kids. Today we’re going to have a lesson on right and wrong. For those of you who think that communism is a good thing, raise your hands. For those of you who think that murdering millions of people to build a fascist, oppressive, communist regime is OK, raise your hands.
No? No one?
Well, then why is it that we are celebrating the anniversary of the rise of communist China?
New York’s iconic Empire State Building will light up red and yellow Wednesday in honor of the 60th anniversary of communist China.
The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People’s Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.
The upper sections of the building are regularly illuminated to mark special occasions, ranging from all blue to mark “Old Blue Eyes” Frank Sinatra’s death in 1998 to green for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day.
Yes, on October 1, 1949 Mao Zedong led the Communist Party of China to power. This rise to power included murdering somewhere between 35 – 65 million people. In 1959, The Great Leap Forward led to the Great Chinese Famine. And since the rise of communism in China, any counter-revolutionaries were either imprisoned or killed. The most famous incident was in 1989, when hundreds of protestors were killed in Tiananmen Square. Millions of Chinese citizens are still living under the brutal thumb of communism, oppressed and unable to enjoy the freedoms we so take for granted.
But for some reason, here in America, we are celebrating their enslavement. The White House itself may not be taking part in the celebration, but the Chinese flag was raised alongside our American flag in the Ellipse, the public area adjacent to the White House. Here, enjoy some lovely video of the festivities:
You know, people in this country don’t like communism. In fact, most Americans would denounce it as evil, which it is. But for some reason, we’re celebrating the 60 year rise of communism, oppression, murder, and famine. It’s bad enough that the Empire State Building is celebrating it, but it’s even worse that we’re celebrating it in an official capacity adjacent to the White House. It’s disgusting. Is Obama going to claim he didn’t know about this, too?
Cassy,
Get used to this because you’ll be seeing a lot more of this in the years ahead. We’re spending our way into oblivion (both personal and government-wise) and guess who’s picking up the tab? You guessed it, China. They’re buying up all our debt and sooner or later, they’ll come to collect. That, in addition to this ludicrous governmental spending, failing social security and an economy that is and will stagnate for the near future will pretty much guarantee our demise. But hey, at least we voted for a president who’s “historical” “hip, cool and fresh” not to mention a “super cool” Democratic Congress. That’s what’s really important. Just consider this episode as the first of many “ass-kisses” we’ll be doing for China.
If you can celebrate Fourth of July, then I don’t see any moral issues here.
Both countries are equally malevolent and genocidal, you might as well celebrate both.
Both countries are equally malevolent and genocidal? Are you out of your mind or simply a liberal (not that there is much difference)?
Communism is just another form of government, an ideal. On paper, it’s not such a bad one, either, but it fails in practice due to human greed and megalomania.
Mao was certainly no angel. Neither was Ho Chi Minh when he acheived power. But nor was Ngo Dinh Diem, the first president of South Vietnam, who was voted in during a rigged election.
Don’t condemn the ideal, but the corrupt people who utilise it for their own sick ends.
Likewise for America, who’s currently under the steering wheel of the most corrupt congress we’ve seen in a very long time. Thank lobbyists and greed for that.
RedStar,
I can’t really reply to your statement because it was so idiotic.
Sonja,
Communism is pretty malevolent. Try reading Marx if you don’t believe me. It’s not really all that ideal and is pretty much the blueprint for dictatorship.
Not suprised that the communists here, in our own govt., allow this kind of thing, and applaud it. One thing, though. They’re hammering the nails into their own coffins. III.
Wow, some really stupid posters here – no doubt the result of public schools and communist professors (all run by people enjoying American freedoms in a capitalist system).
There is NOTHING about communism that is good – on paper, or otherwise. Anyone that needs a government “daddy” to make decisions for them; tell them what they can and cannot say, do or think; what they can or cannot do for a living; how much money they’re allowed to make and then keep; and decide on a whim whether or not they can walk free or must be imprisoned or worse for some statement they supposedly made, is a complete moron. What the hell happened to the democrat party? Weren’t they the party that fought The Man, and was all about personal freedoms?
How fitting that we celebrate 60 years of this regime.
It marks roughly one year for every million Chinese that have been killed by their fellow Chinese.
smg, good point. Given those figures, that’s 2,740 people killed every day for the past 60 years.
Communism = bad on paper and in reality.
Let’s see…
Communism has been tried something like eleven times, and each and every time it has resulted in piles of dead bodies.
Now Fascism has been tried fewer times, one might argue (Germany, Italy mostly. Franco gave military trials to a bunch of Commies so he was not all bad. In Chile, Pinochet killed a few thousand people, but Stalin said a million people was a statistic, and so a few thousand is nothing. And Stalin should know.)
Hmmm, it looks like Fascism has not been tried as often as Communism, and that while its been bloody, on occasion (sorry Jews and Slavs and Gypsies) its been no where near as deadly as Communism (Ukraines, Kulaks, Khmer Rouge, Cultural Revolution and so on.)
So I think we should try at least ten more Fascist governments before we try another Communist government just to keep things balanced. After all, Fascists are well-meaning people. Its just that scum like Hitler got in the way of the ideal. We should not blame National Socialism with its concern for the workers and unity and the environment for the horrors that resulted when someone misapplied the wondrous doctrine.
Now we could judge these ideas by the poisonous fruit they bear, but Communists don’t want to do that. So, I say, lets revive the Volk. Once we institute ten new fascist states worldwide, why then the communists can have a chance to start another one. That is, if their are any commies left as fascists were pretty good at wiping out their competition for Most Evil Scumbags on the Planet.
There are three types of people who think that Communism is and ideal. Those who haven’t read Marx and so don’t realize that he was quite frankly evil, those who read Marx and are to understand what he was saying, and those who are quite simply evil themselves (if you believe that you are so right that murdering those who disagree with you is acceptable to bring about your vision then you are evil).
For those reading – NO, do not get used to it – we’ve “gotten used” to way too much crap.
Communism fails because it doesn’t create any good – China’s trying this experiement with communist despotism & a little capitalist economics thrown in. This kind of freak marriage will not last…
Whitehorse,
That’s all fine and dandy what you said, but how are you going to stop it? Really? How?
I hear an awful lot of tough talk rhetoric out there, but nothing substantial, so until I see something tangible regarding this topic I’ll stick to my position, thanks.
China is communist in name only. They’re more like authoritarian capitalism. Commuinism is at odds with capitalism. Simple authoritarianism is not. But whether they actually become democratic (which I doubt will happen and it has everything to do with the culture there), they’re still going to run things the way they want to and they’ll tell the rest to go to hell (they still don’t like westerners). And your rhetoric still has not addressed how we’re going to get out of the spending spree that we’re on. So while China holds us by the throat with their buying up our debt, you’d better believe that we’ll do anything to placate them. I don’t like it, but that’s the reality and we the people are entirely to blame.

Disgusting. I don’t know what else to say.
The other day, I read about this despicable tribute on some other blog. The author there said he was going to interpret the red-and-yellow display as “the red blood from millions of slaughtered yellow men” or something like that.
Incidentally, the Soviet Union used red and yellow on its flag, and so does communist Vietnam.
One of the ironies of China is that the people over there, despite living under an authoritarian system, may actually be freer than we in America are. How? Because China’s government is so corrupt and disorganized, that it never gets around to enforcing a lot of the laws it makes, especially out in the rural countryside.
I’m with those who say that communism is just as evil (and inefficient) on paper as it is in practice. What good is a philosophy if it breaks down completely once it’s actually tried? What good is a promise of utopia if it requires the slaughter of millions of people along the way just because they don’t fit in?
Communism is evil. Like other forms of dictatorship, it replaces God with a man-made god called The State. Untold crimes have been committed in its name. Those who believe it it are among the fools who think that mankind is perfectible – that is why they insist that the reason it hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried, is because the right people haven’t been in charge.
But then, the Left is always just one revolution away from happiness, isn’t it?
