Jon Voight may be the only free thinker left in Hollywood who doesn’t rigidly toe the liberal line of thinking. See, in Hollywood, being a Republican can be career suicide. So conservatives in the entertainment industry, for the most part, keep their mouths shut. Like most liberals, Hollywood liberals don’t like tolerance and diversity. Sure, they pay lip service to it, but their diversity and tolerance is only skin deep. They don’t much care for ideological diversity, nor are they tolerant of opposing viewpoints. Consider actress Angie Harmon, who finally had to release a statement saying she wasn’t a racist simply because she opposed Obama’s policies. She had to release the statement because she had been accused of racism repeatedly by liberals in Hollywood, simply for not being an Obama worshipper.
So when outspoken conservative actor Jon Voight blasts Obama as a false prophet at the NRSC-NRCC fundraiser last night, you can perhaps have an idea of the kind of bravery it took.
If Hollywood could get rid of the America-hating, drug abusing, terrorist worshipping, military slandering, Christianity bashing imbeciles that populate the entertainment industry, they would be far better for it.
Unfortunately, patriots like Jon Voight are no longer welcome there. Fortunately for Jon Voight and the conservative celebrities like him, most Americans still appreciate actors who love their country and identify with every day America. Perhaps the Hollywood conservative torch is being passed from Charlton Heston to Jon Voight. I just hope that, when the time comes, Voight will have someone to pass it to as well.
Hat Tip: Michelle Malkin
I have a list in my blog of Hollywood Conservatives, well, the ones who are more or less on the Right. And there actually are also younger people there who could make a candidate to whom pass the torch to.
But you’re right about them not getting any say due to the fact that it would, indeed, be a very bad career move. I’ve seen people saying about Spielberg, for example, that he’s primarily a Democrat and only secondarily Jewish, so I can’t really imagine people like him employing outspoken Conservatives for any films.
I knew I liked this guy as an actor for a good reason, and now I know why.
Oh…my…God…there’s actually someone criticizing the WON!? No free rides on Obummer’s unicorn for you Jon.
This makes me even more proud to be the current owner of Jon Voight’s 1989 LeBaron Convertible.
Me no lookie lookie can when i workie workie!!
Have to wait till I get home.
Good for him in standing up for what he believes.
I think the an equivalent environment exists in academia. The few conservatives that exist at American colleges and universities are under constant attack from their “accepting” colleagues in the liberal majority.
I think it pretty ironic that Mr. Voight is now on the conservative end considering his beginnings. During the 60’s, he was very radical to the left. It just proves that one generally gets more conservative (i.e. grows up) he/she gets when they age.
Anyway, I’m not knocking him. He’s pretty vocal about his ideology, which is good.
Mat, it’s pretty normal than the older one gets, the smarter one gets 🙂
According to Wikipedia, “he regrets his youthful anti-war activism, calling it the result of “Marxist propaganda”.”
But there is one more thing. There are issues which are at one point considered liberal, but perhaps 30-40 years later conservative. So people might also not change their views, but the views change from being liberal to being conservative.
Besides, Ronald Reagan was once a liberal, too. And he made the greatest conservative President America has seen.
Several people have said, “if you’re not a liberal when you’re young, you don’t have a heart; if you’re not a conservative when you’re old, you don’t have a brain”. It applies in many cases. I, on the other hand, have always preferred brain 🙂
I think it’s safe to say Mr. Voight decided to let the Hollywood cards fall where they may quite a while back.
Now, what was that thing about Communist operatives in the
US Gum’mint, and in Hollywood, that Mr. McCarthy once
brought to light?
In Other News:
I recently saw the first commercial outright recruiting young folks for Scientology on the History Channel. Rainbows, ponies, and euphoric extacy assured for all concerned.
This is a pretty dumb speech on many levels. First would be that he implies Obama won the election illegally. Ummm, is he joining the ‘Obama is not American’ or ‘Acorn manufactured millions of votes in swing states’ meme? It’s not even in the realm of truth.
Then he goes off against Obama apparantly not supporting Israel. Again, absurd. Just because his name is Obama and his father was a Muslim does not mean he does not support Israel. Obama has said often that our support for Israel is unbreakable. However [just like Bush] he is looking for a two state solution and he wants peace.
Voight an actor who the right wing canonizes, invites to parties and loves to love – even though they apparently don’t like actors with opinions.
ModDem is obviously not a free thinker.
ModDem, that was a pretty dumb post on many levels. First would be that you imply Obama is a legal American citizen. I have seen no evidence of this. Then you seem to think for some reason that Obama has any support for Israel, once again despite his actions to the contrary.
ModDem thinks he is an actor, but in reality hes just a guy on a street corner in a cardboard box.
He lost me when he started talking about Israel…Israel “giving” Palestinians land is akin to Americans “giving” Native Americans reservations. Most Palestinians are peaceful and living in camps instead of what was their own homeland, and they’re squeezed and marginalized because of the events during and after WWII. America chose to fund Israel’s military budget with weaponry and straight cash; Israel has proven to be an awful ally; an Israeli extremist assasinated Yitzak Rabin; and part of the reason terrorist attacks occurred here in the first place is because of our terrible foreign policy. Why can’t anyone admit that the only reason we’re interested in the bowl of sand that is the Middle East is because of oil, pure and simple? We should look to the past and be a beacon of hope to the world WITHOUT getting involved in conflicts that do not directly threaten the national security of our nation…but first, it seems, to make that happen, we need to find a renewable and better energy source so we can abandon that area and bring those billions of dollars back home. America is going bankrupt and we can’t afford hemmoraging cash to bad allies.
For the record, I pretty much agreed with everything else, especially points regarding health care.
Hoo boy, another dumbass posting on Cassy’s blog. Let’s begin.
He lost me when he started talking about Israel…Israel “giving” Palestinians land is akin to Americans “giving” Native Americans reservations.
Funny you should say this, because the Native Americans and the Palestinians have one important thing in common:
Neither were sovereign, internationally-recognized states with the ability to deal with other states on a diplomatic level.
Who was the last Palestinian king? And who was the Navajo ambassador to Sweden?
Most Palestinians are peaceful and living in camps instead of what was their own homeland, and they’re squeezed and marginalized because of the events during and after WWII.
Yeah, and a lot of them make bombs out of nails and rat poison, blow up dance halls and shoot pregnant Israeli women in the stomach.
You want to blame someone for their plight? Blame the other Arab countries in the region, who refuse to take them in, who use the Palestinian cause like a political football. Exhibit A: the lack of interest in carving out a Palestinian state in Gaza or the West Bank when they were controlled by Egypt and Jordan (respectively) between 1948-1967.
America chose to fund Israel’s military budget with weaponry and straight cash;
As opposed to that crooked cash which Saddam was using to fund Palestinian suicide bombers…
Israel has proven to be an awful ally;
Certainly no worse than South Korea. I’m hard-pressed to come up with a more ungrateful “ally.” Meanwhile Mossad provides intel on what’s going on over there.
an Israeli extremist assasinated Yitzak Rabin;
Probably for trying to sell out to Israel’s enemies…
and part of the reason terrorist attacks occurred here in the first place is because of our terrible foreign policy.
Oh great, another self-styled isolationist nutbag who thinks we were hit on 9/11 because of our meddling in the Middle East. You probably believe they’d just dry up and leave us alone if only we withdrew all our troops from the sacred sands.
Why can’t you Libertarian jerkwads admit once and for all what the rest of us know – that they hate us not because of what we do, but because of who we are? Get your frickin head out of the sand.
Why can’t anyone admit that the only reason we’re interested in the bowl of sand that is the Middle East is because of oil, pure and simple?
OK, we’re interested in the Middle East because it has oil. You know, the stuff that powers nearly every mode of transportation known to man? The only fuel capable of moving people and goods around the world in a manner efficient enough to keep the global economy from collapsing?
Yeah, remember this claptrap the next time you hop in your SUV to go pick up a quart of milk, douchebag…and also remember how the milk got to the store to begin with.
Aren’t you going to throw in something about “global warming due to carbon-based fuels” too?
We should look to the past and be a beacon of hope to the world WITHOUT getting involved in conflicts that do not directly threaten the national security of our nation…
How about we do that by showing the world what we do with tyrants, dictators, and other enemies of civilization?
You isolationist freaks don’t understand that our enemies don’t respect weakness. You’ve got the same problem Obama does.
but first, it seems, to make that happen, we need to find a renewable and better energy source so we can abandon that area and bring those billions of dollars back home.
Uh huh. Any suggestions? I’ll be waiting about thirty years for your answer. You remind me of the kid I ran into during a World of Warcraft game, who said that solar and wind were the way to power our cars.
America is going bankrupt and we can’t afford hemmoraging cash to bad allies.
I agree. Why don’t we start by cutting aid to Egypt, currently America’s largest recipient of foreign aid?
Yes, except not like you think. Let’s drill for oil at home, like we should have kept doing back in the 70’s…and quit sending billions of dollars abroad to corrupt, polluting, terrorist-sponsoring OPEC nations. And keep that cash within our borders.
You get an F, Junior. Next time, do your homework before running your fucking mouth.
Idiot.
