With the plethora of scandals to choose from in the Obama administration, it seems strange that anyone would care about whether or not Chris Christie allowed, directed, or knew about his aide’s decision to close traffic lanes in order to back up traffic in a Democrat rival’s town. Naturally, Christie says he was “deeply saddened” by the whole thing and “misled” by his aide. It’s a pretty standard thing to say if you get busted doing something you weren’t supposed to do, especially if you’re a politician. Let’s see: Express sadness but not regret or remorse? Check. Blame someone else? Check. Ensure that people know that you had Absolutely No Idea That This Horrible Thing Happened? Check. Hold up the “I am a victim too” sign? Check.
The problem isn’t just that Christie is a bully…and he is a bully. That’s pretty much not in debate. The problem is that Republicans don’t see this as a problem. So what if he stuck it to that Democrat guy, right? So what if he’s playing by their rules? Well, when you’re supposed to be the frontrunner for the 2016 Republican nomination, you’re not also supposed to be a bullying jackass who has ridiculously liberal positions, or conduct yourself like a liberal thug who abuses his power. We have one of those in the White House already. Yet, the Republicans were all about Chris Christie. We stood (stand?) a good chance of getting his obese, illegal immigrant-loving rear end getting shoved on us in the next election. Except…Big Chris got caught being what he is—a lying, thuggish little bully. Okay, maybe not little.
The whispers are already starting. What does this mean for Republicans in 2016? Republicans all over are wringing their hands wondering how on earth they will ever be able to find another candidate who is electable and can unite the aisles and can get things done in Washington.
The conservatives, on the other hand—and believe me, Republican and conservative do NOT mean the same thing—are cheering. Maybe now the Republican party will see him as too much of a liability to let him run. Maybe a few folks who were going to vote for him will get just fed up enough that they’ll start thinking about voting for something other than whatever piece of liberal GOP trash they try to stick us with. Maybe they will use the primary phase for its intended purpose: weeding out the pieces of liberal GOP trash so that we actually get a viable conservative candidate in the election. Or, just maybe, people will say screw the whole thing and vote for a “small-l” libertarian instead of a big government statist.
Thanks, Chris. You finally, truly, did something to help the conservative cause. Keep it up, buddy.
