What else can we expect from Hollywood? More shameless promotion laden with more hypocrisy. This time from Spike Lee. His latest “joint”, Chi-Raq, appropriately set in the shooting capital of America, the south side of Chicago.
Chi-Raq, set to hit theaters on December 4th, is an adaptation of Aristiphane’s Greek comedy Lysistrata. Following the gang shooting death of a young black girl, in order to quell the epidemic of gun violence, Lysistrata (Teyonah Parris) enlists each and every woman in Chicago to go on a “sex strike” and abide by the mantra: “No peace, no p*ssy.”
Way to wield feminine influence, eh? The mantra “no peace, no p*ssy” translates in the complete interview available here into an opportunity for Lee to push his agenda on his version of politics, police brutality and yes, Donald Trump.
On the filming of Chi-Raq and Chicago’s south side:
There’s food deserts, many of the schools are no good, there’s no trauma center. There’s no trauma center on the South Side of Chicago! I’m positive there are people who are dead today that could be alive if there was a trauma center in the South Side, and they didn’t have to travel downtown or somewhere else. I’m positive.
When asked if Rahm Emanuel was involved in the decline of the poor conditions of Chicago’s south side, Lee went on:
