The Grammys: Social Commentary With Music on the Side

The Grammys: Social Commentary With Music on the Side

Was this an awards show for music or a bad fashion show with social commentary and the occasional song and dance? That is the question.

Award shows like this, in general, have become little more than prom night for celebrities. They get to dress up, go to a big party, and clap when someone is voted king of the prom. Last night, the prom king was Sam Smith. (Disclaimer: I have zero idea who he is, and the only reason the Grammys were even on at my house is because my husband went to high school with Brandy Clark. True story.) Sam Smith won 4 Grammys (best new artist, record of the year, song of the year, and best pop vocal album), but that’s not what Twitter was talking about.
