Every once in a while, we here at VG receive a “gift” in the form of crazy happenings that we can blog about, and as of late those “gifts” have been plentiful! From James Woods blaming Al Sharpton for the execution style murder of two police officers in New York City almost a week ago on Saturday December 20th, to the #MillionsMarchNYC protestors shutting down the Brooklyn Bridge over the death of Eric Garner we have been awash in interesting topics. This one though, took the cake for me. Perhaps it is because I was spending Christmas with my mother in law, a devout German Catholic who has never read a book in which the Virgin Mary has not been a central figure, perhaps it was because I myself am an ethnic Catholic who never felt comfortable with other religions. Perhaps it is simply because, dear reader, you just cannot make this sh*t up.
It seems that on Christmas Day a member of the topless “feminist” group known as FEMEN showed up in Vatican City to kidnap the baby Jesus from the Vatican’s nativity scene as part of their “Massacre of the Innocents” campaign to promote awareness of what they say is the church’s antiquated stance on women’s bodies and reproductive rights. They hoped to raise the global awareness of organized religion’s focus on controlling women’s bodies by kidnapping baby Jesus’ from nativity scenes the world over.
“The maniacal desire to control women’s fertility is a common trait of many religions, National Socialism, nationalism and other antediluvian, anti-humanist ideologies. Abortion is sacred,” the group says on its site.
Abortion is sacred?! I am pretty sure that I did not miss the day of religion class where they taught that the outright slaying of a pre-born human being in the womb is a sacred right of women. In fact, I am also fairly sure that I remember debating the topic of abortion in ethics classes later in my studies and having it turn out that most of the girls in my school were in fact against the idea of murdering unborn babies in general.
My feelings on the topic are strong because I know smart, wonderful women who have felt that they had no other choice for whatever reason, and chose abortion. I know the hell that they went through, and still go through to this day, mentally and spiritually so I do not approach this topic with a light heart. I extend my deepest sympathy to any woman who feels that she must make the choice to abort-for whatever reason. What I find insufferable is the “feminists” saying that a murder of an innocent is sacred.
Are we no better than the ancients who purposely murdered women and children in the name of ritual sacrifice? I choose to believe that we are, that women are smarter than these idiotic lunatics who claim to represent women’s interests and strive for our true equality. I only give them credit for their dramatic flair. It takes guts to show up topless in St. Peter’s Square, lifting your black micro mini and pretending to shove a crucifix where the sun don’t shine to make a point about women’s issues. Unfortunately, I just don’t think it does much to truly advance the state of women around the world.
That credit goes to women like Condoleeza Rice, former Secretary of Defense, Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai who survived being shot in the head by the Taliban, and Janet Wolfenbarger who is only the second four star general who happens to be a woman in the U.S. Air Force. To these ladies, I say we have come a long way baby!
