There were two Kims who ran for office in their respective locales — both black women, both running in deeply blue cities. One of them, however, lost her election while the other went on to win her re-election bid. So why did that happen in this era of identity politics? Answer: one had a D after her name, the other had an R. And that’s all their constituents saw, apparently.
