The Jovan Belcher murder/suicide has given sports pundits open season to attack the Second Amendment, apparently. Bob Costas took the liberty of pontificating during halftime on Sunday Night Football about the evils of guns and how gun control would have saved Kassandra Perkins’ life. Because, you know, it was the gun that killed Perkins, not Jovan Belcher. He was completely helpless against the ruthless killing machine in his hand.
But Bob Costas, it turns out, really isn’t all that original. He didn’t even come up with the idea himself. His brilliant anti-gun screed was inspired by Jason Whitlock, a sports writer who claims that the NRA is the new KKK.
“Sports gets so much attention, and people tune out the real world, that I try to take advantage of the opportunity to talk about the real world when sports lends itself to that and try to open people’s eyes,” Whitlock said.
“You know, I did not go as far as I’d like to go because my thoughts on the NRA and America’s gun culture — I believe the NRA is the new KKK. And that the arming of so many black youths, uh, and loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery, is the work of people who obviously don’t have our best interests [at heart].”
… “I think it’s obvious if you’ve traveled abroad, and traveled to countries where they have legitimate gun laws, that we don’t have to have what we have in America, where people somehow think a gun enhances their liberty, and that people somehow think a gun makes them safer,” he continued.
“It just doesn’t. A gun turns some kids listening to music into a murder scene. And uh, you know, if you don’t have a gun, you drive home. You know, kids listening to some loud music, you don’t like it, you go home and complain to your wife. But when you have a gun, you open fire, potentially, and take the life of a child.”
So an organization dedicated to protecting our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is totally the same thing as an organization of psychotic racists who intimidate and murder people. Right. Oh, and the NRA is purposely supplying black youths with loads of guns and drugs because they just love the thought of black teens getting all coked up and then going on shooting sprees. The kids are listening to rap music and then, because they have guns, suddenly get the urge to go kill people. Their own will and intent never comes into the picture. It’s all the evil NRA/KKK. Basically the same organization, right?
What a flipping idiot.
Why is it that advocates of gun control always seem to blame the gun for the crime, and not the actual criminal? Let’s be realistic here. A gun does not think. A gun does not fire itself. A gun sitting on a table does not load itself, levitate towards a helpless person, and then fire without warning. Someone has to actually do all of those things. Someone who wants to kill another human being will do so with whatever weapons are made available to them.
But then, based on Jason Whitlock’s logic, it isn’t his fault he’s stupid. It was his pen that wrote the dumbest column in sports history!
For an example of how idiotic this argument is, let’s look back to Great Britain in 2008 after guns were banned:
Teen killings have apparently doubled in London alone, with one teenager being murdered every 5 days in Britain, and 2/3 of those murders being stabbings.
The British response then was to attempt to ban knives. No, really.
Libtards need to get over this ludicrous idea that guns are the problem. Guns do not kill people. People kill people. Unless someone is using it with murderous intent, a gun is harmless. If Jovan Belcher hadn’t had access to a gun, he could have still killed Kassandra Perkins in any number of other ways. And members of the NRA have absolutely nothing in common with the racist hatemongers at the KKK.
Wow – very sad. Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, who was only 25, murdered his girlfriend Kassandra Perkins at her home early this morning and then…
