The story of Friday’s shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School gets even creepier today. At an afternoon press conference, Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary revealed just how targeted a killing Jaylen Fryberg meant this to be.
According to the sheriff and detectives, Fryberg arranged to have lunch with his victims that day, inviting them all to meet him in the school cafeteria via text message. When Fryberg arrived, all five were seated at the table. According to witness accounts, he then walked up, pulled the .40 Beretta out of his pocket (which has been traced back to a legal purchase made by a relative, allegedly Fryberg’s father), and shot all five in the head.
The sheriff’s department is now also confirming that Fryberg committed suicide, and that the first-year teacher who confronted him did not make physical contact with him.
The name of the first victim who was dead at the scene has been formally identified as Zoe Galasso, 14. Gia Soriano, 14, died last night of her wounds. Both Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, and Andrew Fryberg, 15 (a cousin of the shooter) are still in critical condition. Nate Hatch, 14 (another cousin of the shooter) has been upgraded to satisfactory condition while still in ICU. He was shot in the jaw, and began tweeting again today.

Since Jaylen Fryberg will never be held to account for his actions in a court of law, the only court left to judge him is the court of public opinion. I don’t think they will be so forgiving as Nate Hatch seems to be.
