Paris Knife Attack on Charlie Hebdo Anniversary

Today marks the one year anniversary of the attack on the staff of the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo, January 7, 2015. This morning, according to Israel News Flash, a knife wielding man tried to enter a North Paris police station and was shot dead by French Police. The man was shouting “Allahu Akbar”.

Just last night, Sky News reported, French President Francois Hollande led tributes to the fallen at the magazine and, let us not forget, a Jewish Supermarket. Hollande also praised the police:

Addressing members of France’s security forces in Paris, Mr Hollande said more needed to be done in the face of budgetary constraints to ensure there were enough officers to counter the threat posed by Islamist terrorism.

It is so pleasant in the face of this ugliness to hear a national leader (albeit French), praise the police officers, call for more officers and admit that Islamist terrorism is a threat.

President Hollande continued:

“They carry out remarkable work and they are very indispensable.

“But the seriousness of the situation means that now we have to make sure our commitment is at an even higher level and despite budgetary constraints I talked about giving 5,000 extra jobs between now and 2017.”
