Soldier killed in Arkansas by Muslim convert; media too busy with George Tiller murder to notice

Heartbreaking news: an Army recruiter is dead and another injured after a shooting in Arkansas.

A man with “political and religious motives” killed a soldier just out of basic training and wounded another Monday in a targeted attack on a military recruiting center, police said. The shootings were not believed to be part of a broader scheme.

The soldiers completed basic training within the past two weeks and were not regular recruiters, said Lt. Col. Thomas F. Artis of the Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion, which oversees the Little Rock office.

William Long, 24, of Conway, died, and Quinton Ezeagwula, 18, of Jacksonville, was wounded and in stable condition, Police Chief Stuart Thomas said.

Both men were from nearby hometowns and volunteered to work at the recruiting center to attract other locals to the military. “They can show the example, ‘Here’s where I was, and here is where I am,”‘ Artis said.

Police arrested Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 23, along a crosstown interstate moments after the shootings at the Army-Navy Career Center in a shopping center in west Little Rock.

Muhammad acted alone, the police chief said, and based on an interview with officers, the suspect “probably had political and religious motives for the attack.” He lived in an apartment just 1.5 miles from the recruiting center. A search warrant had been obtained for the apartment.

Thomas said Muhammad, previously known as Carlos Bledsoe, would be charged with first-degree murder, plus 15 counts of committing a terroristic act. Thomas said those counts result from the gunfire occurring near other people.

The accused shooter’s father, Melvin Bledsoe of Memphis, Tenn., hung up on a reporter who called about his son’s arrest Monday night.

Witnesses told police that a man inside a black vehicle pulled up outside the recruiting center and opened fire about 10:30 a.m. Long fell onto the sidewalk outside the center while Ezeagwula was able to crawl toward its door.

Now, just who is Carlos Bledsoe? Surprise, surprise, he’s a Muslim convert who “trained” in Yemen who changed his name from Carlos Bledsoe to “Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad” (More at Michelle’s).

A 23-year-old convert to Islam with “political and religious motives” killed a soldier just out of basic training and wounded another in a targeted attack on a military recruiting center in Arkansas, police said.

The suspect, Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, reportedly had been under investigation by an FBI joint terrorism task force after he traveled to Yemen and was arrested there for using a Somali passport. The probe was in its early stages and based on Muhammad’s trip to Yemen, according to ABC News.

While there, Muhammad — a U.S. citizen from Memphis who is a convert to Islam and was previously known as Carlos Bledsoe — studied jihad with an Islamic scholar, Jihadwatch.org reported.

Muhammad told authorities that he approached the recruiting center in Little Rock by car on Monday and started shooting at two soldiers in uniform, according to a police report.

“He saw them standing there and drove up and shot them,” Lt. Terry Hastings told The Associated Press. “That’s what he said.”

Obama has been noticeably silent on the subject. He had time, however, to condemn the murder of late-term abortionist George Tiller. Now, I think it is horrible that George Tiller was murdered. As much as I despise what he does, he does not deserve to be murdered for it. There is a right and a wrong way to deal with such disagreements, no matter how deep or profound. The asshole who murdered Dr. Tiller, Scott Roeder, should fry. And so should Carlos Bledsoe.

But for some reason, the outrage is entirely reserved for Scott Roeder. The White House is outraged. Liberals are holding moonlight vigils. And the media is obsessed with it. It’s yet another example of violent right-wing anti-choice wackjobs, so the media’s running with it.

Where’s the outrage for the violence in Arkansas? Where’s the anger for murdering one of our soldiers and injuring another? Why is there so much silence on this particular subject?

It’s sad that I even have to ask.

William Long deserves candlelight vigils as well. His family deserves prayers. And it sickens me that liberals are so quiet about his murder, simply because it doesn’t neatly fit into an ideological box. They don’t actually care about George Tiller or his family. They’re eating this up. This means they can slander the right. They can talk about how dangerous being pro-choice is. They can feel like victims again. And it’s to be expected from such small-minded people. But all the same, I frankly cannot believe that a mass-murderer such as George Tiller gets more tears and sympathy than a soldier who was murdered in uniform, just for volunteering to serve his country.

I don’t condone Dr. Tiller’s murder. And I sincerely feel for his family — they are in my prayers. But I weep much more for the family of William Long. And they deserve our thoughts and prayers as well, even he didn’t die for a fashionable cause like George Tiller did.

Amazing, what happened to Tiller was wrong and the suspect should pay for it. But Tiller killed how many babies? And did what for our country?
A soldier gets killed in America by a terrorist and what do we hear? From our spineless lamestream media NOTHING!!!

President Obama is not going to say anything negative about a Muslim before he goes to Egypt to apologize to Muslims for American fascism.

Scott Roeder was a long time fanatic who was caught 13 years ago with explosives and bomb fuses in the trunk of his car. Only a question about the legitimacy of the search freed him. He has long advocated assassinations and has, to my knowledge, never been reported by his ideological colleagues for his often stated intentions. When he was arrested he had the phone number of notorious Operation Rescue West leader Cheryl Sullinger on the passenger seat of his care. Sullinger is well known for her conviction as the mastermind of a clinic bombing plot.

It is horrible that the young volunteers at the St. Louis recruitment center were targeted by the deranged loner who killed one. However, Roeder is a member of the “Freemen” and “ORW” in-groups. A conspiracy prosecution may well be in the making.

Troy Newman, Wichita ORW leader, used his “Truth Truck” to repeatedly drive in front of a legally permitted, Mennonite-based peace March in Newton, Kansas to block the path of peace marchers, a few weeks before Bush invaded Iraq. How can a pro-war activist still be considered “pro-life?”

Celebrating Tiller’s morning assassination in church in Wichita on Sunday evening were famed Iraq and Afghanistan GI funeral protesters, the Fred Phelps “God Hates Fags,” clan and the equally detestable, defrocked Wichita minister, Mark Holick.

Are you “too busy” to take them to task?

Private William A. Long died in defense of his country. As an American, a patriot and a veteran, I take Private Long’s death personal.

George Tiller just killed unborn human being for a living. He got rich doing it. Somebody will miss Tiller.

  • ModDem says:

You’re right the media should have covered this more and there should be more outrage [and investigation]. But don’t think we liberals don’t want justice.
    Daily Kos writes:
“Throw the book at this a**hole who shot up an Arkansas recruiting station, killing one soldier straight out of basic training, talking about his experiences to recent recruits. And like the terrorist down in Kansas, use the criminal justice system to bring them to justice.”

  • Steffen says:

These 2 cases only show proof of what is honestly wrong in America.

Makes me sad that an abortion doctor is so much more important than a member of our armed forces. A young man that was just starting out in life.

I pray for the soldiers families.

We are going to send in the US Marshall’s to protect recruiting stations as well, right?
