From Neal Boortz:
If Barack Obama was applying for a security clearance as a government employee, these associations would disqualify him. We are, my friends, about to have a president who doesn’t qualify for a security clearance. Pretty pathetic. If Barack Obama becomes president, he would not even qualify to be his own bodyguard.
Cassie,
I was in the Navy for 20 years, requiring a Secret clearance, which I had to renew every 5 years. My last clearance renewal for a TS mandated an FBI background check that took over a year to be completed. There’s a long-established procedure that most every government employee with a need for a security clearance is supposed to follow.
The question of whether Obama can even qualify for a security clearance is a bit nebulous since each branch of the government has it’s own different application procedures. At DoD, anyone who requires access to classified information to perform their duties requires a security clearance, with different levels which the military, in its wisdom, always capitalizes: CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET, and on up.
Obama would start by filling out Standard Form 86, a 13-page application form that would require Obama to provide a lot of personal identifying data, as well as information regarding where he’s lived and worked, the status of his finances, his bad habits, and to some degree, who he associates with.
Were Obama to fudge on his answers … maybe say he had no association with ACORN, or that Bill Ayres was just a guy in the neighborhood, the consequences could be pretty unpleasant – like being jailed for his entire first term in office, and being fired from his second.
I won’t go into all the various qualifications, but here’s a link to the relevant section on past associations, specifically to an individual or group dedicated to the violent overthrow of the Government of the United States:

Past associations, just like character, do matter. I’ll see what more I can find.

Dave is right on the mark. I did 18 years in the Navy/USNR (TS clearence) before finishing the last 9 years in the National Guard as a 11B30. There is no way Obama could get a security clearence with his past associations. After listening to his campain I suspect that if he had to apply for a clearence shortly after he signed the forms there would be a man with a badge looking for him.
In addition to his associations with Jeremiah “Kill Whitey & G-ddamn America” Wright and Billy the Bomber Ayers, there is also the matter of foreign influence. Barack Hussein Obama has close relatives in foreign countries. This raises a concern about foreign influence, which any other applicant for a security clearance would need to rebut.
