NBC is breathless in its coverage about a nice, but not extraordinary, bit of animation currently “viral” on YouTube. As it’s only four minutes long, take a look.
As a piece of animation, it is very competently done. The direction and framing shots equal a professional, studio production and the musical selection supports it well. It contains some amusing moments, especially of how one character reacts to the all-encompassing embarrassment that only pre-teens and young teens feel they alone experience. I didn’t find it offensive for its gay relationship. I didn’t find it particularly moving for its gay relationship, either.
Indeed, would it really being getting the type of OMG!!BEST THING EVAH!!! attention if it had been done as boy/girl piece as the creators initially planned?
Or is the hype and coverage a product of the virtue-signaling culture we find ourselves in? A culture where our taste in entertainment is now to be dictated by the ‘correct’ (aka Leftist) politics?
We already see an attempt at shutting down production on a series before it even starts filming because Social Justice Warriors are upset about the mere premise. Even something as apolitical as a symphony orchestra is being badgered and bullied for the crime of having a guest conductor who isn’t sufficiently Leftist.
This isn’t going to end well.
Or is the hype and coverage a product of the virtue-signaling culture we find ourselves in?
Definitely. Because the left has no real virtues, they’re all about play-acting virtues by condemning vices.
And the virtue-signaling of “tolerance” is rapidly causing a rising against them. And they really don’t see it. They are standing on the beach, blithely ignoring the slow swell of the ocean as the tsunami crests the horizon.
