obama’s cairo speech: just more apology and appeasement

obama gave a 6,000 word speech today in cairo in which he continued to lay blame on america and pander to the muslim world. some have described his cairo speech as ‘history making’ as is everything he does. others, like myself, think it was more anti-american apologism and basically a big yawn.

obama’s full text of his cairo speech is here so you can go read it yourself. but i would like to highlight a couple of passages that popped out at me as completely laughable if not outrageously false.

“I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principlesprinciples of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”

um, excuse me? tolerance and dignity of all human beings except for WOMEN! what tolerance has the muslim world shown women who are made to cover their faces/hair and wear burkas? what tolerance does saudi arabia show women who are not allowed to make eye contact or drive cars? what tolerance did afghanistan show when flogging a teenage girl recently and enacting a law that allows for rape in marriage? what tolerance was shown by the saudis who tried to enforce a little girl to marry a man over 50 years old? even the lefties are scratching their heads over that one.

placing western culture on an even footing with arab cultures yet omitting the inconvenient truths that women are subjugated in those cultures, gays ostracized or killed outright, freedom of the press rare, and elections usually farcical is really an affront to democracy especially when its said by the leader of the free world for gosh sakes!

and then there was this:

“Over seven years ago, the United States pursued al Qaeda and the Taliban with broad international support. We did not go by choice, we went because of necessity. I am aware that some question or justify the events of 9/11. But let us be clear: al Qaeda killed nearly 3,000 people on that day. The victims were innocent men, women and children from America and many other nations who had done nothing to harm anybody. And yet Al Qaeda chose to ruthlessly murder these people, claimed credit for the attack, and even now states their determination to kill on a massive scale.”

fair enough. so why muck it all up by excusing it away and apologizing by saying this?

“And finally, just as America can never tolerate violence by extremists, we must never alter our principles. 9/11 was an enormous trauma to our country. The fear and anger that it provoked was understandable, but in some cases, it led us to act contrary to our ideals. We are taking concrete actions to change course. I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States, and I have ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed by early next year.”

what the heck is he talking about???? lumping 9/11 with gitmo, waterboarding, torture??? more ‘dump on bush’ and side with muslims in saying they are justified in their anger against us. is this what we want him saying on our behalf?

a foreign policy based on appeasement never works. whether the obama administration admits it or not, doesn’t change the fact that there is still a war on terror and language like this sends the wrong message to our enemies. terrorists don’t parse or practice nuances. they cut off heads. they use planes as missiles. they use disabled children and widows as human bombs for ‘the cause’.

why The One refuses to acknowledge and confront the violent jihadi virus around the world and here on american soil is beyond me. invoking his Muslim roots, groveling to unelected despots, even inviting terrorists themselves to the speech seems to be an indication of the over inflated ego, confidence of The One to talk his way out of anything — even terrorism.

What a racist rant that has been cherry picked for incendiary comments and a true insult to peace loving muslims! Do you also think muslims are like bad odors? If you ignore them, they will go away? Wrong!! I am so glad we have Barack Obama as our president and so proud of him today!

  • Micky says:

Yeah, bringing in the Muslim Brotherhood was pretty bad. The group that gets its doctrine from WW2 N*zis is being told by the POTUS that America needs to shape up ?
Geez, just when you thought you’d heard it all.

  • Micky says:

    Smitty, Racist rant ?
If Im correct I believe you dont have to be of any race to be a Muslim or practice Islam. Its up to true Muslims to start rejecting and calling out the radicals instead of turning a blind eye to them for reasons of either fear, complacency or passive aggression. When do you think we’ll see these “peace loving Muslims” step up to the plate and do something about the elements that are tarnishing their people and religion ? Where are they ?

  • Ken says:

    “What a racist rant”

Someone else to prove my point, thanks Smitty. Please explain exactly HOW this post was racist, I’d love to hear your explanation.

Honestly, lefties, the “YOU’RE A RACIST!!” is getting old and its beginning to turn people off to Obama. If this is the only argument you can put up when it comes to criticizing B.O. then that’s pretty sad.

“I am so glad we have Barack Obama as our president and so proud of him today!”

I’m so happy for you, Smitty. Please tell me why you’re so proud of him today. What exactly did he do? He gave a speech, that’s all. It never ceases to amaze yme how hypnotized the neo-socialists are every time this guy speaks into a microphone.

  • BikerDan says:

The Muslim Brotherhood was invited??? Forget the freakin Nazi doctrine, Bin Laden’s 2nd in command, terrorist Ayman Al-Zawahiri FOUNDED that!!! I really hate this puke. His lack of regard and respect for 9/11 makes me sick.

  • Mr. Peabody says:

Oh this is hilarious! Don’t you all ever get tired of the old “CAN’T YOU SEE HE’s EEEEVIL” schtick? Get a life people. And you are Racist against Muslims. Look at the posts on this blog as proof. *Poof*

  • Micky says:

    “peabody”

    Little, green and inert.

  • DavidP. says:

I am a progressive and supporter of President Obama. I am also a long-time lurker of this blog who enjoyed my invisibility. I cannot however let this post go without comment.

Kate, Micky, Ken there is most definately racism involved here. Why is it that everything President Obama does is wrong?

Take his wife to dinner. Wrong. Adopt a dog. Wrong. Make a speech to Muslims. Wrong. Appoint Puerto Rican woman for SCOTUS. Wrong. Healthcare for all. Wrong. No torture in America. Wrong.

His approach to foreign policy is not wearing a cowboy hat and saying “Bring it on”. It is the modern equivalent to the non violent marches in the Sixties. It is the response of the antagonist that wins the battle for the protagonist surely you know that. He wants to make friends out of our enemies, so why the constant dogs and fire hoses?

It makes your arguments against him soft.

  • Jane says:

Well as usual, we’re on different planets!! I felt Barack’s speech was eloquent, direct, inclusive and very, very thoughtful. Those of you who dislike hearing hard truths will hate it, of course. So be it. But hopefully, because of today, there will be more people in the world open to the idea of starting anew and trying harder to live peacefully.

    Bravo, Mr President!

  • Bob says:

I am more concerned with his basic approval of a nuclear Iran by his saying to a muslim audience across the globe that ” No single nation should pick and choose which nations hold nuclear weapons.” If I were Israel right now, I would be more then a little bit nervous.

  • PenniePan says:

No surprise here but I agree it was a great speech. I’ve read it through twice now and think it’s one of his best so poo on you naysayers because there is nothing Barack can do that you would like anyway! Personally, I love how he took time to do his homework, to speak to his audience using phrases from the Koran and other cultural reference points that would resonate with the Muslim world.

Kate you called the speech “anti-american apologism and basically a big yawn.” Sounds to me like you need to take off your racist glasses and re-read the speech again. It wasn’t any of the sort.

  • Micky says:

“Those of you who dislike hearing hard truths will hate it, of course.”

Once people learn the difference between delusional perspectives and truth we’ll all be that much better off. Please, the whole speech was nothing more than a bunch of wishful thinking laced with crap thats been said by every administration so far, platitudes, what we didnt do, what we failed to do, what we need to do bla bla bla.

“But hopefully, because of today, there will be more people in the world open to the idea of starting anew and trying harder to live peacefully.”

Meanwhile Osamas working on his next excursion while the Muslim brotherhood is in the audience scoping out security and everyone else is telling themselves what an idiotic pushover this guy is.

  • Micky says:

“I love how he took time to do his homework, to speak to his audience using phrases from the Koran and other cultural reference points that would resonate with the Muslim world”

I doubt it, the speech writer did the homework.
You thinks hes great because a few phrases got pulled from the Koran ?
If I were a Muslim I’d be pi$$ed and feel like I was being patronized. Why should Islamic passages matter to a Christian ?
Maybe if he read the whole thing to them we’d have worldwide kumbaya eutopia

  • Ken says:

“Kate, Micky, Ken there is most definately racism involved here.”

Please be specific David. Quote which comments were racist and why. Dazzle me.

“Take his wife to dinner. Wrong.”

No, taking his wife to NYC to the tune of over $24,000.00, on the taxpayer’s dime, weeks after lecturing the American people about “tightening” our belts and “sacrificing” is wrong.

    “Adopt a dog. Wrong.”

Didn’t really care that he adopted a dog and I don’t know who did care.

“Make a speech to Muslims. Wrong.”

No, pandering to them, bowing to the Saudi King, and apologizing for America is wrong.

“Appoint Puerto Rican woman for SCOTUS. Wrong.”

No, appointing a woman who has obvious racist overtones and who even fellow liberals have their reservations about, is wrong.

    “Healthcare for all. Wrong.”

No, trying to socialize the medical industry when there are so many failed examples all around us is wrong.

    “No torture in America. Wrong.”

No, bashing President Bush throughout the campaign and then basically keeping most of his anti-terror policies and making a major case out of three people who were waterboarded, is wrong.

“His approach to foreign policy is not wearing a cowboy hat and saying “Bring it on”. ”

True, and it seems to be working so well with North Korea, wouldn’t you say?

“He wants to make friends out of our enemies, so why the constant dogs and fire hoses?”

First, what enemies of ours did he make friends, again, please be specific.

Second, the dogs and firehouses insult is so indicative of the “open minded” and “tolerant” left. We don’t agree with Obama so you brand us “racists” and conjure up images of dogs and hoses. Quite pathetic.

I’m curious, does that mean that African Americans who didn’t like Bush were racists, too?

“It makes your arguments against him soft.”

Perhaps to you. However, since all you have to fall back on is “You’re a racist!” it makes your arguments ignorant.

  • Why is it that everything President Obama does is wrong?

DaveP: Those of us who are conservative were wondering about that for the 8 years that former President George W. Bush served this country. Because as far as your people were concerned, everything he did was wrong.

If you can answer your own question about the left’s vitriolic treatment of former President Bush – then perhaps conservatives could answer yours.

    What’s that you say?

    *crickets*

    Thought so.

  • Ken says:

“Well as usual, we’re on different planets!! ”

No surprise here, what color is the sky in your world? Here in reality, it’s blue.

“I felt Barack’s speech was eloquent, direct, inclusive and very, very thoughtful.”

And if Obama farted into a microphone to the tune of “It’s a Small World” for 30 minutes, you’d feel the same.

“Those of you who dislike hearing hard truths will hate it, of course.”

Jane, anything that Obama says that resembles the truth is completely coincidental. I guess on your planet that qualifies as truth, though.

“Sounds to me like you need to take off your racist glasses and re-read the speech again.”

Oh wow, ANOTHER accusation of racism, shocking!!! Yawn. That’s called projection, Jane, your own bigotry and hatred is causing you to call everybody else one. Get some help.

  • Ken says:

“If I were Israel right now, I would be more then a little bit nervous.”

Oh, and they are nervous, but it doesn’t matter. Israel will not seek the approval of the “Great Apologizer” before defending themselves.

  • Marsha says:

    Dear Libtards,
We get it. You worship and adore Barack Obama. Please stop now.
    Seriously…you’re creeping us out.
    Thanks, Marsha

  • lisab says:

    in fairness to obama

if you were married to michelle you would probably want her to wear a veil too

  • Micky says:

“Kate, Micky, Ken there is most definately racism involved here. Why is it that everything President Obama does is wrong?”

Along with ken I’m going to ask that you provide some kind of example.
How is it rac*st that we are rightly cautious of radical Islam ?

“His approach to foreign policy is not wearing a cowboy hat and saying “Bring it on”.

This is bullsh*t so knock it off. That was not his approach to foreign policy. It was his approach to radicalism.

” He wants to make friends out of our enemies, so why the constant dogs and fire hoses?”

Gee, I dont know, maybe its because these people have determined to hate us no matter what ? Have you read their manifestos, Osamas letters to America before and after 911, studied the N*zi doctrine adapted in the 50s to their cause ? They’ve taken a vow to wipe out Israel, the US and everyone else after that that even resembles a western society. When the hell are you guys going to realize that our enemy has defined itself and its intentions so as to leave no doubt ?

“It makes your arguments against him soft.”

    What a load.
My argument against that man is rock solid reinforced by the many moonbats that can never answer the questions in regards to his policies or clarify his obvious hypocrisy.
His answers to all the hard questions these days are based on idealism and theory, not facts. The success of last 8 years is a perfect example of what needs to be done and should be done in the future when it comes to radical Islam. He even realizes this to a certain extent everytime he picks up and uses yet another one of Bushs foreign policies and security initiatives. He says one thing full of hope and crap and unicorns and then turns around and uses all of the tried and proven measures originated by the last administration.
Our arguments are very strong bro !

  • moonlvr says:

“Along with ken I’m going to ask that you provide some kind of example.
How is it rac*st that we are rightly cautious of radical Islam ?”

    HAHA! No independent thought whatsoever.

  • Micky says:

    By the way Dave.
Its not that everything he does is wrong.
We all want puppies and peace, both parties want the same basic things, its how you guys go about getting it and what justifies the means thats all wrong.

We all want peace but guys like me dont want it if I’m constantly getting bent over and having to apologize for existing.
We all want prosperity but I want my prosperity, not someone elses.

  • Micky says:

    Yeah Moonlvr, right.

Your simply thoughtless in that you cant seem to argue an issue to save your life so you’ll have to take the pre teen highway and resort to personal attacks.
In the last 3 days of your existence you havent been able to really drive home one point other than the fact that your just an arrogant little troll.
Besides that, if you paid attention, I addressed this issue long before anyone in commet #3.

  • moonlvr says:

Oh you answered before Ken in comment #3? HAHA! Well get a refund Micky because who ever you lifted that comment from owes you. We can always tell when they are your words anyway because YOUR comments are nonsensical and full of typing and spelling errors!

  • PenniePan says:

Marsha I know you thought that was a clever little diddy but actually you don’t understand do you dear? Those of us on the left are still getting used to the idea of not having to cringe at the prospect of our POTUS speaking overseas. We have no idea how long is it gonna take us to get over the scars on our psyche’s from the Shrub years. But, since President Obama called the Koran “holy” & spoke in Arabic, we expect the usual blow back from you usual blowhards.

  • Ken says:

“Those of us on the left are still getting used to the idea of not having to cringe at the prospect of our POTUS speaking overseas.”

While those of us on the right ARE getting used to the idea of cringing at the prospect of our POTUS speaking overseas.

“We have no idea how long is it gonna take us to get over the scars on our psyche’s from the Shrub years.”

No scars here, just good memories. Unless you count the future scars that most Americans will have to bear with a juvenile, immature, narcissistic and inexperienced glory hound in the White House.

“But, since President Obama called the Koran “holy” & spoke in Arabic, we expect the usual blow back from you usual blowhards.”

Actually I believe we had a problem with the other countries that Obama went whining for forgiveness to, not just Egypt. It’s truly amazing how clueless some people are.

  • Micky says:

Moonlvr, you’re really pretty repetitive, unoriginal and lame. Clueless to boot.
Unless you’d care to engage me on a issue you’re gonna be ignored from now on.

  • Paul says:

Oh come on! Everything President Obama said in that speech seems just common sense to any rational person and you guys know it. Muslims are not our enemy. He showed real leadership in diving out there and extending the hand of friendship. It was a good speech, an important speech, and the President hit it out of the ballpark.

  • Ken says:

    “Muslims are not our enemy.”

Nobody ever said they were, Paul. In fact, I remember Bush saying the exact same thing. How original of Obama.

“It was a good speech, an important speech, and the President hit it out of the ballpark.”

As long as you believe it, that’s all that matters.

  • kate says:

    aw lefties! sometimes, the truth hurts. {hugs}

  • The_Reluctant_Pundit says:

I think President Obama’s way of fighting “terrorism” is a lot more effective then the waterboarding/torture route from the old days. I know, THIS truth is painful.

  • Ken says:

“I think President Obama’s way of fighting “terrorism” is a lot more effective then the waterboarding/torture route from the old days.”

You know that after only 4 months? Wow, that’s impressive!!

Hey, what are tonight’s lottery numbers gonna be?!?!?!

  • Micky says:

“I think President Obama’s way of fighting “terrorism” is a lot more effective then the waterboarding/torture route from the old days. I know, THIS truth is painful.”

    Totally ridiculous.
So far the “truth” has revealed that Obamas way of fighting terrorism has been to use all of Bushs policies.
Then again, there seems to be little point in taking prisoners anymore so he’ll never have to interrogate anyone anyway, right ?
The “truth” is that whatever Bush was doing it worked for 8 years.

  • Rope says:

Can one of you liberals actually tell me what we need to be apologizing for.

Knock your self out I have plenty of time.

  • Micky says:

“Can one of you liberals actually tell me what we need to be apologizing for.”

    Not apologizing sooner ?

  • lisab says:

“Can one of you liberals actually tell me what we need to be apologizing for.”

    paris hilton

    tom cruise

    carrot top

    nicole richie

    kevin federline

    donald trump

    i could go on

  • mO says:

why r u people such azzhats here????? why don’t u like barack? he is the best of all of us!

  • Micky says:

    “why don’t u like barack? ”

For the first time since 911 an American, an American soldier, was killed on American soil by an Islamic terrorist who’d been on the radar for a while.

    Thats why.

  • Paul says:

“And how can this be? For Obama is the Kwisatz Haderach!”

Actually what he wants to convince the Muslim world is that he is “Al Mahdi”.

And many are being convinced of just that.

  • Ken says:

“he is the best of all of us!”

    Only in your world.

  • Pennie said:

We have no idea how long is it gonna take us to get over the scars on our psyche’s from the Shrub years.

Oh you poor babies! My god how horrible, to endure a President who kept this country safe from another terrorist attack for over 7 years.

What about those scars Pennie? The ones left on this country by the deaths of 3,000 people at the hands of Muslims – an event whose plans began under the watchful eye of a Democrat. The scars that began with the hostage taking in Iran – under the watchful eye of a Democrat. The new scars from the first bombing of the WTC – under the watchful eye of a Democrat. The ones that continued with the bombing of the USS Cole – under the watchful eye of a Democrat.

And now we have yet another Democrat, looking to appease these same people. People who have for over 30 years declared death to all Americans.

In 4 years, let’s see what our new scars look like.

  • Micky says:

If I’m correct we just had an American soldier gunned down on American soil at the hands of a radical Muslim. I dont remember anything like that happening under the Bush administration.

    More scars

  • JJ says:

I don’t like Obama. I don’t believe he is in tune with “the people.” He talks a lot of smack and I believe his approach of talking about dialogue, peace and etc. is going to put this country in a very grave situation. He is very unclear and confusing a lot of people.

When I was 18, 19 -21 years old I thought and talked like Obama. Then I grew up. Yes, his thoughts and intentions may be very good but the fact of the matter is he is not taking into account common sense and human nature.

As for the whole Muslim thing. I wonder, do we have a problem with Muslims or a problem with terrorists? The way I see it is the problem is not Muslims. The problem is people who take their religion to the extremes. Fundamentalists. And that holds true for fundamentalists of all religions-Christiams, Jews and Muslims. Isn’t that the real problem? And then perhaps we need to look at what drives people to their fundamentalist views? Perhaps some of these terrorists have nothing else in life going for them. They are pissed. They hate and do stupid things.

However, I don’t think people like that you can dialogue with. You have to be tough. It’s you or them. So I don’t jump on board with Obama and all the Obama loving people who rant about hope, change, talking and apologizing.

With that said. I was born in America and this is my country. I am not going to apologize for that. I also think this is a great country …..or at least was…..right now I think we have a leader who might very well end up undermining us all.
I find his attitude towards 9/11 to be very concerning. He appears to be diminishing 9/11 by putting the the onus on the Americans implying we overreacted to it. I don’t think there was any overreaction to 9/11. He politicizes everything for his own gain is what I think all at our risk.

  • GT says:

Without being pro or anti Obama…it seems that many of you believe that he will “end up underming us all” as JJ state. You don’t seem to have much faith in our country/gov’t to think that one person could do that. No one person is that big or that powerful. And if the majority feels he does not do a good enough job he will only be in office for 4 years…unless the GOP comes up with someone less capable.

Some of the posts are quit funny…even a few where it seems that some conservatives pick on each other. Maybe its always the case…conservatives or liberals…the pack will turn on itself. And that’s where the true undermining occurs.

But these are just my observations.
