After the Obamas’ abysmal treatment of Gordon and Sarah Brown, they’re struggling to do some damage control. See, they didn’t mean to snub the Prime Minister… he was just so tired and overwhelmed.
Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been “overwhelmed” by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.
British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.
But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama’s inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president’s surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama’s inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to “even fake an interest in foreign policy”.
A British official conceded that the furore surrounding the apparent snub to Mr Brown had come as a shock to the White House. “I think it’s right to say that their focus is elsewhere, on domestic affairs. A number of our US interlocutors said they couldn’t quite understand the British concerns and didn’t get what that was all about.”
The American source said: “Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.
“That was the gamble these guys made at the front end of this presidency and I think they’re finding it a hard thing to do everything.”
So, he’s bringing out the same old excuse from his campaign. Every time he flubbed during the campaign, it was because he was tired. And now, he can’t handle a visit from one of our longest and closest allies because he was “too tired”?
How can he effectively manage the country if he’s “too tired” to actually handle the responsibilities that come with the job? Obama is clearly in way over his head here. The presidency is not a job that allows for on-the-job training, yet that’s exactly what is happening and Obama apparently can’t handle the pressure. He’s apparently overwhelmed at the sheer volume of business that comes across his desk, but that did he expect? As the most powerful man in the world, did he think all he’d have to do was sit back with his feet up on the desk and never actually work??
Who am I kidding, that’s probably exactly what he thought.
But just in case the horrible treatment of Britain and Obama’s lame excuse wasn’t enough, they had to throw in one more snub:
The real views of many in Obama administration were laid bare by a State Department official involved in planning the Brown visit, who reacted with fury when questioned by The Sunday Telegraph about why the event was so low-key.
The official dismissed any notion of the special relationship, saying: “There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.”
This was extremely, extremely stupid. Either way, the Obama administration loses. Either they’re a bunch of clueless, incompetent idiots who get overwhelmed by even the slightest responsibilities, or they’re a bunch of stuck-up, narcissistic pricks who look at our closest ally as insignificant. It doesn’t look good either way, although I’d wager the truth is that his administration is probably some pathetic mash-up of the two.
I thought Obama was bragging about how smart his diplomacy was going to be. Is this his brand of “smart” diplomacy — to insult the strongest ally we have? Rather than show graciousness and simply apologize, which may well have made this entire issue become quickly forgotten, they had to act like adolescents utterly unwilling to ever admit that they were wrong. Instead, it’s excuse after excuse after excuse. And none of these excuses make Obama look any better; rather, the more excuses he gives the worse it makes him look.
Obama’s inexperience shows more by the day.

Yup…I’m wishin’ like the dickens I could hop into a time machine with this, and go back to the beginning of November.
But back then, to even invent stuff like this, let alone arrive from the future with hard evidence of it, would’ve been crazy right-wing talk. Surely Obama is more nuanced, sophisticated, in step with the times, and makes a more polished diplomat than some hockey mom clinging to her guns and her Bible who can see Alaska from her house!
And yet…here we are.
Give Obama a break..
after all,
he had to step down into the Presidency..
Alright everyone, all together now, awwwwwwwwwwwwww, po’ widdle Barry Metrobama is overwhelmed.
Is the BO Administration populated entirely by buffoons, people with evil intent, or a little of both?
While I agree that Obama has been a dipshit in the realm of foreign policy thus far, I do find it amusing that this was the same guy that Great Britain (and Europe in general) were fawning over several months earlier. They all thought he was hot shit and now reality has set in. I find it pretty funny that all of these left wing jackasses on both sides of the puddle are making fools of themselves.
When someone who is completely unqualified to hold office is elected this is what happens.
Just shaking my head in amusement, because it’s fun to watch a politician you dislike flail about…and in disgust because he’ll wind up taking the rest of us down with his supporters.
The mere suggestion that a President would treat an official representative of the British government (the Prime Minister, no less!) the same way he’d treat, say, Kim Jong-Il or Hugo Chavez, just blows my mind. The same as the other 190 countries. Pfft. Un-fracking-believable.
(As President, I’d like to call the heads of each one of America’s enemies into the Oval Office and personally threaten them.)
My wife has a good idea. We should start a letter writing campaign to Great Britain to let them know that while our president is an ass who doesn’t give a shit, we DO care about our friendship with them.
Just need to figure out who they should be written to.
The “tired” excuse doesn’t fly. The Presidency isn’t a 9-to-5; it’s a 24/7/365/4 years (or more) kind of job. It sounds more and more like Obama thought it would be really neat to sit behind the big desk instead of being the leader of the free world.
In his defense, Obama is the most articulate Pothead in America.

I disagree with this post. He would treat Chavez and Jong-Il better.
The UK tortured Obama’s grandpappy. With that in consideration I think his response to the UK was most restrained.
It’s not like he declared war on the UK like his predecessor did on a country who had tried to hurt his father. The UK actually DID hurt Obama’s Grandfather. Therefore there is more justification for Obama to go to war with Britain than there ever was for Bush to go to war with Iraq.
We’ve all worked with idiots like this guy. He knows how to say all the right words to GET the job and then makes all sorts of excuses why he can’t actually DO the job.
As for being an articulate pothead…nope. He’s just a pothead who can read what other people write for him. There’s no thought going on in that walnut brain of his.
We’re so hosed.
Drip…drip..drip…
Slowly, steadily, the self-absorbed, MSM-enslaved, Oprahmericans who voted for this cipher are realizing what a lot of us knew all along, the dude ain’t ready to be a notary public, much less a president.
Yeah, Great Britain is no better than any other country. I’m pretty sure that in Great Britain, they hand 16-year-old girls from cranes in the street for being promiscuous, chop off the hands of thieves, look the other way (if not actively promote) honor killings, and call for the death of people who leave the Church of England.
Who would have thought that that 3am phone call thing would end up being important. Now we know for sure, if there’s an emergency at 3am Obama will likely be too tired. Awww punkin.
Thinking less of one of closest allies leads me to believe that Obama cares more about Terrorists then the UK. I knew inexperience and being a “community organizer” would bite us in the ass. Sadly, i did not vote for him because of his socialist ties in his past, but i still have to deal with his ideaology and his spending spree. Socialism doesn’t work look at all countries that try. But i think he knows that and wants this country to fail so we are equal to every other country. Let me tell you now we have fought for these rights and they are being taken away from us. Please People Read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights know what you have the rights to and make those that work for you, politicans, accountable.
