obama throws ‘national day of prayer’ under the bus

now why wouldn’t a messiah want a little prayer at the white house?

the ‘National Day of Prayer’ was signed into law in 1952 by president truman after a six-week crusade in the nation’s capital led by the billy graham.

and after a standing invitation to the white house during president bush’s administration, evangelical christian organizers of the ‘National Day of Prayer’ activities have not been invited to attend white house ceremonies this thursday.

in fact, there will be no ceremonies in the White House at all this year – god jr. is only doing a paper proclamation.

  • And we’ve never needed prayer more.

    How sad.

  • Dade Cariaga says:

High time we tossed those nutty evangelical preachers out of the White House. If there were only some way to get them to completely shut up.

  • Ted says:

When you want to kneel on a mat and bang your head on the floor towards Mecca 5 times a day, you don’t really want cameras around.

  • Dade Cariaga says:

Nice one, Ted! Demonstrating, yet again, your open-mindedness and magnanimity, to say nothing of your intellectual prowess!

  • kate says:

obama says he’s a christian. he made a big deal about it in the campaign in attempts to connect with those who value that. to continue this would help relations with the evangelical community but instead it just seems mean spirited on his part since its James Dobson’s wife is one of the organizers.

  • Ted says:

Coming from someone who wants ministers of the Gospel to “completely shut up,” your words don’t mean anything. Go back to hating God; you’ll learn your lesson soon enough.

  • PenniePan says:

    Good Riddance!

  • Dade Cariaga says:

See, Ted. That’s one of your many problems… you can’t distinguish. Black and white for you, eh?

Is it possible to believe in God and yet to also believe that evangelical nuts like Dobson or Jerry Falwell are cheap conmen that care more about money and power than about promoting Christian values?

Never mind. It’s like trying to communicate with a turnip. Keep your eyes shut, Ted. Maybe that way you can feel safe.

  • Ted says:

That’s the problem with libs; they’re so busy looking at the 10,000 shades of gray, they overlook that some things are, in fact, black and white.

Dade, your silly advice doesn’t interest me, son. My thoughts are so above your thoughts and my ways so above your ways that I can’t even see you down there. Someone who says they would like to find “some way” to force people who they don’t like to “completely shut up” is not someone worthy of consideration.

    >>kate said: obama says he’s a christian.

Dear Leader says a lot of things. There’s a many people who claim to be Christians, but aren’t. Jesus said that by their fruits we would know them. So if someone claims to be a Christian, but then they participate in or support issues that the scriptures say are immoral (i.e. abortion and homosexuality), then I automatically know that God doesn’t consider that person to be a Christian, so neither do I. There are many who walk the broad way, there are many who in the end will say “Lord, did we not do this and that in your name?” We know what will happen to those.

I doubt Dear Leader is a Muslim, but he’s certainly not a Christian, though he considers himself to be one. Besides, I heard what was taught at the church he attended for 20 years and what his preacher had to say, and it wasn’t anywhere close to being identified with Christianity. It’s not too late for him to become one, but the changes he would need to make would cause his political party to ostracize him, and like King Agrippa of Acts 26 he would have to decide if he loved God more than power and praise.

  • T. Hedere says:

    Matthew 6:5-6

“And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Those are the words JESUS had to say on this matter. All of you demanding prayer be turned to public spectacle are doing so for your own vanity, not out of faith.

  • kate says:

    hey t. hedere
no one has suggested the national day of prayer ceremony in the wh be a public spectacle. i am not a pastor and certainly do not want to turn this into church chat but anybody can cherry pick any verse from the scriptures to support their position. as you admonish us, remember the word also says:

“and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 chronicles 7:14

if you are sincere, i would think you would want this land healed. if you aren’t sincere, go away because you are just another troll and we already have lots of those.

  • micky says:

Ahh, I just think hes whipping out some more butt ki$$es for his base cuz he knows they’re getting a little impatient with him. Every now and then he throws em a bone when he thinks they’re upset about something like maybe the chronic flip flopping were seeing.
    just a guess

Besides that. It just doesnt look good using a teleprompter when you pray

  • Bill says:

Does this surprise anyone? This is a man who sat at the feet of Jeremiah Wright for 20 years! He is just thumbing his nose at the Christian Right on this. With Obama everything is political.

  • Taffy's Mom says:

I am sorry to hear this! Our country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and for the President to minimize a spiritual tradition like this for a significant part of the American population is very sad indeed.

Please everyone: Call the White House tomorrow THURSDAY, MAY 7TH and let them know how sad this is and that you will pray for them. Here is the White House comment line: 202-456-1111.

  • Marsha says:

Maybe “God Jr” as Kate calls him just didn’t want the competition!

  • lisab says:

he just scaled it back, he did not cancel it …

the white house has already released the video of obama on prayer day

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAvlimEYEpQ

  • lisab says:

the funny part is that arch posted the same exact quote on rightpundits …

  • lisab says:

    a dem talking point perhaps?

  • T. Hedere says:

You are the ones who are “insincere”. Your faith is nothing more than a “prop” for whatever side in an imaginary “culture war” you’ve taken.
    You will get your rewards.

  • micky says:

I love the way guys like Hedere seem to have this connection to God thats superior to that if us simpletons.
Who are you to minimize our faith ? Please tell me.
And what gives you the authority or ability to determine whos sincere and whos not ?
Why dont you take some of that judgement you like to throw around so carelessly and apply it to your own self and stop worrying about us.

  • Cesar says:

And when something like 911 happens, then people begin to question why God allowed these things to occur; I tell you why:

We removed prayer from schools, we have the highest abortion rate in the world, we want to remove every reference of God from all the public places, and we called Good things bad and bad things Good. But God in His sovereign ways will not force in to us His will but rather will let us make our own choices. It is evident that as a nation we decided to remove God from our lives. As a result of these choices, He is no longer present in this nation and in our lives to protect us from the one who wants to destroy us. A nation without God is a nation in serious trouble and ultimately in a path for judgment.

I pray that God will have mercy on this nation, as this could very well be the end of the many blessings we have received over the history of this nation and the beginning to the doom days ahead.

  • Ted says:

    >>T. Hedere said: Those are the words JESUS had to say on this matter. All of you demanding prayer be turned to public spectacle are doing so for your own vanity, not out of faith.

If they’re doing it to be “seen of men,” then I would agree. If they’re sincere, then there’s nothing wrong.

Too often, the verse you quoted is misapplied by those who hate Christianity and don’t want those who are Christians to show any outward sign of who they are and what for what they stand. IOW, the “some way to get them to completely shut up” types just want Christians to be religious out of sight where no one else will have to observe them being religious. They’re in for a lifetime of disappointment (in so many different ways) since they’re unable to get others to view it the way they do rather than what it really means.

  • Katche says:

Obama’s decision has a trickle down effect on our nation and things usually fall from the top down. Do not think that his decision has not had a profound effect on us because it has. I work for a Defense Department agency and for the last several years there has been an announcement before National Day of Prayer inviting all who wish to join together in corporate prayer to meet at our flag pole oustide of the building at a certain time. This year no announcement came, so we waited and waited and found out our upper management was following the President’s lead and would not grant us permission to gather in prayer….We began to organize our own group time for prayer when at the the last minute they finally relented because of the many complaints and the pressure from regular civilian employees. We only had 1-hour advance notice, but we assembled quickly. We had a glorious time of prayer, lifting up everything and everyone, including our “…oh ye of little faith” President.

  • micky says:

    Cesar.
    You’re wrong.

  • Cesar says:

    Micky,
I wish I can agree with you but the evident is very clear. The spiritual decay of our nation is taking us to a path of self moral destruction.

George Washington once said: “t is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible” and unfortunately we are drifting away from both.

“A nation without God’s guidance is a nation without order. Happy are those who keep God’s law!” Proverbs 29:18

Today the leadership of this country demonstrated where they stand when it comes to God’s guidance for this nation at a time in our history when we need it the most.

  • […] Obama was not a big fan of the National Day of Prayer. In 2019, he only issued a proclamation. Proving that the Biden/Harris Administration is Obama 2.0, Joe Biden has also issued a paper […]
