obama should give himself a medal

obama should give himself a medal

to hear the lamestream media tell the still unfolding story, The One himself singlehandedly routed the pirates, taking all 3 out with a single bullet, and saved captain phillips from a certain death; a true example of leadership and courage.

think i am not giving credit where credit is due? here is an account from the NYTimes — not btw, a conservative rag:

“The Defense Department twice sought Mr. Obama’s permission to use force to rescue Captain Phillips, most recently on Friday night, senior defense officials said. On Saturday morning, the president agreed they said, if it appeared that the captain’s life was in imminent danger.”

keep in mind this was a 5-day event. when, exactly, during this entire episode was captain phillips’ life not in imminent danger? why did barack obama have to sleep on the decision whether to permit our military commanders on the scene to use their own judgment as to whether to kill pirates who had attacked an american vessel and were holding its captain hostage?

barack obama did not take a public stand before the outcome of events. he did not put himself on the record. he waited to see what would happen, and then took the credit. if the rescue operation had failed, obama would have left no ‘fingerprints.’ i have no doubt that obama would be distancing himself from the navy at this hour, and his magpie minions would be calling for someone’s head on a platter.

but thankfully, it didn’t fail. this military victory – an act of opportunity carried out flawlessly – was handed to the weak-kneed and indecisive obama, the c in c.

and of course, the inevitable media spin is in full force stating that his administration has passed its first ‘critical national security test’ – of course keep in mind that this test was against…

4 lightly armed pirates in an out-of-gas lifeboat with a single hostage, after 4 days on the open seas!

the only credit The One deserves is that he did not give in to his liberal tendencies: refusing to allow force of any kind, and offering them sanctuary and welfare in the US for their poor troubled lives!

and now to the real heroes: just how great are the line officers and the navy SEALs? holy cow. and captain phillips himself who took care of 95% of the ’security test’ on his own without a harvard degree, community organizing experience, or legions of ‘experts’.

captain phillips, not The One, is the example of leadership and courage during crisis and testing.

The latest in this parade of idiocy is that in light of the recent events the administration is announcing its thinking of going after pirate targets within Mogadishu or Somalia.
Really, how much more diplomatic can you be unless you send a post card telling them you’re on the way ?

  • kate says:

more then that micky… this sounds very much like ‘President Bush’ behavior to me. how do the lefties feel about taking the iraq model to somalia?

  • Dade Cariaga says:

Sorry, y’all. I know you were so hoping this might turn into something you could use to bludgeon Obama, but it all worked out. Obama did exactly the right thing.

It’s funny… everything came out right, and y’all are saying Obama f**ked up. If the hostage had been killed, if the pirates had escaped, you’d have said Obama f**ked up. If all pirates everywhere had been eradicated, all terrorists killed, all crime solved, all poverty and disease erased, you have said…

    Sigh.

  • And just awhile ago I heard a woman on TV saying we must give this country a lot of money so their people won’t have to turn to piracy.

No one explained why we have young people being recruited from our supposed “land of plenty” to go there and be a PIRATE!!! And they are going!

They really learned a lesson; behave very badly and we will give your country a boatload of money.

I say let the ships’ crews be armed. And shoot to kill.

  • PenniePan says:

More whining and crying from the peanut gallery! Is there anything President Obama could do (short of resigning) that you would applaud? He gave the order to shoot. Three desperate people who are most likely sons, husbands, brothers are now dead. The Captain is on his way home. What more do you stupid people want???? I get so sick of your drivel.

Yes President Obama does deserve a medal: for patience, for not being quick to anger, and for his compassion toward the country of Somalia.

  • Ted says:

Let’s see, during the last 8 years the modern-day Dems/libs were telling us that killing terrorists would only create more terrorists, that we should try and understand their plight and direct our efforts towards remedying their situation.

So if they wanted to avoid being hypocrites and stay consistent (BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA….., like that would ever happen), then they would take the position that killing these pirates was the wrong thing to do, it’s only going to create more pirates, but rather we should try and understand their circumstances and address that instead. But is that the position they are taking? No.

Once again, with Dems/libs it’s never about the policies being carried out, it’s about who’s in office when they’re being done. In this case, they praise B. Hussein for doing the very thing they would have roasted Bush for doing. Hypocrite doesn’t even begin to accurately describe Dems/libs.

And yes, what B. Hussein did was very much unlike the ideology he embraces, which came as a great surprise to even his closest followers. Liberalism would tell him to double the ransom and pay it, and ask permission for one of his cabinet to enter the area in order to summarily execute the captain and the 20 crew members as to not waste the precious bullets of the pirates. The cabinet official would then sign an article of surrender and immediately cudgel themself to death with the pen.

  • micky says:

“I know you were so hoping this might turn into something you could use to bludgeon Obama, but it all worked out. Obama did exactly the right thing. ”

Actually I have plenty of something I can use to kick his rump all over the park with.

First off, it was very evident that he was examining the legal ramifications that could come against him if things went south so he brought in Holder first to examine the situtation. It turned out that the coast was clear for Obama to act because Reagan instituted the laws that allow the US to prosecute and go after those overseas off Am. soil that attack our citizens.
Its rather disgusting in the sense that no matter what he should of worried about the sailors lives before his own a$$ and do whatever ot takes first and worry about his hide last.
Second of all he had the same opportunity the first time the capt. jumped ship as he did the second time. The second time those with bigger and better minds that actually have military experience told him that the time was now or never and there would be no second chances. All he did was tell them to do what they thought was best. Whoopdeedoo , give that man a brown star on his forehead.
Its evident that Obama does not have the leadership required in these matters as was shown when he came out of his very first security briefing where he looked like a deer in the headlights and decided to screw the base that voted for him and kept all of Bushs national security policies while even taking wireless wiretaps a stage further.
Hes a follower of Bush in this dept, whom by the way is responsible for having the quality of troops we see today.
Bush would of gone down to the shoreline with a bullhorn and told these guys to knock it off or were coming for you next ontop of nailing them the first time the capt jumped off the life boat.
Bush also would not of issued a statement like Obamas last one saying that ” we have halt the progression or growth of piracy” or something very close to that.
He should be saying were going eliminate the possibility of this ever happening again instead of the second statement which I mentioned above that were thinking of coming after your locations .

    DUH.

  • Rope says:

Pennie yea thats what they needed when Captian Phillips had a gun pointed to his head, compassion.

History chaser said “I say let the ships’ crews be armed. And shoot to kill.” I totally agree. These are not people you can reason with. Arm the ships and give them the authority to defend.

OH I got a super decoder ring out of a box of cracker jacks I could sent that to BO for his medal.

    GO SEALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • micky says:

He gave the order to shoot.”

Yea, if the command thought it was a good idea.

” Three desperate people who are most likely sons, husbands, brothers are now dead. ”

Yea, we all didn’t just popcorn fart our way out of the ground, they’re still murdering thieves.

“The Captain is on his way home. What more do you stupid people want???? I get so sick of your drivel.”

How sick ? Yet you show up very soon after each new post is submitted.
We want to see if Obama can leave himself out of the picture and let things work without him always using everything to draw attention to himself.
He’s a very insecure and needy man who must always use every opportunity he can to reaffirm and elevate his standing. He doesn’t seem to believe yet that he won and so he resorts to selling himself constantly.
I want faith in my leaders in that they can go about their duties quietly and confidently not always like the little boy who just took off his training wheels and having to show mom “look, no hands!”

“Yes President Obama does deserve a medal: for patience, for not being quick to anger, and for his compassion toward the country of Somalia.”

Its not really a country, it doesnt even a have government and his decision was not based on any compassion for these people in Somalia or anyone on that chunk of mud. It was a marine operation that involved only those at sea.

    ———–

“They really learned a lesson; behave very badly and we will give your country a boatload of money.”

We should help them develop a financial infrastructure but first the criminal leadership they have needs to be ousted or else any form of assistance will be stolen or futtered away.
That means a pretty good size bloody engagement.

    We shall see.
I’ll bet we send em all a bag of rice with Obamas picture on it before we do anything substantial

  • Ken says:

    Dade,

Now you know how we felt for 8 years dealing with the left under President Bush. Kinda sucks doesn’t it?

Personally, this was the best ending possible, in my opinon. We all knew the media was going to fall all over itself making it seem like Obama pulled the trigger himself, but that part is not Obama’s fault. I’m glad it worked out and although Obama wasn’t “green lighting” a rescue attempt, it did happen on his watch, so he gets credit for it.

What I find interesting, though, is how we heard about bombing and killing people simply CREATED more bad guys. The Somali pirates vowed revenge and even threw mortar shells at a visiting congressman today. Other pirates have also said they will be quicker to kill Americans they capture now. So are we still creating terrorists, or doing what we had to do?

Bottom line, the hostage was rescued and the bad guys were killed or captured. Our military has once again proven itself the best in the world. God bless them. If Obama gets credit for it, so be it.

  • kate says:

    ken

‘We all knew the media was going to fall all over itself making it seem like Obama pulled the trigger himself, but that part is not Obama’s fault.’

it’s not bo’s fault? i disagree. he perpetuates this herculean myth of himself to insulate for when the bad times come – and they will. he needs some humility.

yes this is the best outcome. but about 3 days late.

  • kate says:

dade – yes prepare to ‘sigh’ a lot. it sucks when your president is bashed day in and day out, whether he did bad or good or even nothing at all.

  • Saginaw_MI says:

“Captain Phillips, not The One, is the example of leadership and courage during crisis and testing.”

Quit calling him The One!!! He is our President! President Obama called every move of this mission. Every one. He was flawless. He deserves the credit and yes even a medal even if it kills you to admit it slut.

It is expected that the military would respond this way, everyday. It’s their job.

  • Dade Cariaga says:

    Ken and Kate,

True enough. Bush got hammered for nearly everything he did.

We’ll see what happens next, regarding the pirates and retaliation against US targets. I wouldn’t be surprised if, behind the scenes at the G20 conference, which, of course, is supposed to be a largely economic summit, there was some talk about a joint military venture in Somalia.

    It’s a sticky problem, though.

Let’s just imagine that the US, France, and Britain all conduct a joint military operation and take out a couple nests of pirates. All well and good. But until there is a stable government in Somalia, won’t that just be like pulling up a dandelion but leaving the root?

And, if we agree that the long-term solution to the problem is a stable Somalia, how should we bring that about? A full-scale invasion followed by an occupation?

I don’t have the answers. I don’t even pretend to know what the best thing to do would be. But, as you said Ken, this particular incident ended well. We can all be thankful for that.

  • Rope says:

Quit calling him The One!!! He is our President! President Obama called every move of this mission. Every one. He was flawless. He deserves the credit and yes even a medal even if it kills you to admit it slut.

    That just makes me SNORT.

Don’t call BO The One but call Kate a slut, priceless.

  • Ken says:

“President Obama called every move of this mission. Every one.”

No Saginaw, that is not true. He left the standing order that said if the Captain’s life appeared in imminent danger, they could take action. He did NOT “green light” a rescue attempt. Anyone would have done the same thing. Can you imagine what might have happened if they killed the Captain and then found out that Obama had PROHIBITED them rescuing him. That one was a no-brainer, but he still gets credit.

“He deserves the credit and yes even a medal even if it kills you to admit it slut. ”

Are there any liberals out there, aside from Dade, that can have a conversation about a topic without resorting to the immature name calling.

  • Julie says:

Why would you not give credit where credit is due? Somalia is a lawless land. And needs intervention. Barack will be able to deal with this situation for a longterm solution that a Republican and George Bush could never. You all think the answer is bombs. Barack has the smarts and the respect. He also has the compassion to deal with the less fortunate something conservatives like to hype with their stats about giving but in reality, they do not care.

  • micky says:

“President Obama called every move of this mission. Every one. He was flawless.”

Okay, how do you know this ? Please, enlighten me on how you are privy to such details ?
Has it occured to you that The One has no military background whatsoever ?
Ken took the words right out of my mouth after I offered a more reduced version above in saying that all he did was give the O.K. to those that actually know what they’re doing.
“President Obama called every move of this mission. Every one. He was flawless” Represents the mindset hat Obama loves to get ahold of to nurture and then exploit in the future.
    Please get a grip.

“Are there any liberals out there, aside from Dade, that can have a conversation about a topic without resorting to the immature name calling.”

Its because they cant talk about the topic that leads to the personal attacks

  • Ken says:

“Somalia is a lawless land. And needs intervention.”

Unbelievable. Julie perhaps you could look up a little military operation called “Operation Restore Hope”.

    http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/restore_hope.htm

It was an attempt to bring order to the “lawless land” and it started under President Bush, you know the Republicans who don’t care. It turned into a catastrophe and we left in defeat under Bill Clinton, you know the democrats who supposedly care.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, do some research before you open your mouths people. I am really trying to stay on topic, but this kind of ignorance cannot go unchallenged.

  • micky says:

    Julie.

No one could of gone into Iraq and do what needed to be done without bloodshed anymore than a regime change in Somalia would be bloodless.
These people dont respond to american diplomacy, tell me, when have they ?

” something conservatives like to hype with their stats about giving but in reality, they do not care.”

NO! The stats ARE the reality, not your opinion.

Off the top of my head why do you liberals never mention Bush doing more for AIDS victims across the planet than all previous administrations efforts combined ?
Or that republican administrations have distributed more foreign aid in the last 30 years than democratic ones ?

Please. Democrats are mostly compassionate with everyone elses money

  • Julie says:

Ken. Thanks for the reprimand. Love coming to a new blog and getting blasted right out of the gate.

Micky. Your ideas and thoughts underwhelm me. I am not talking stats. I am talking real lives. People who are hungry, live in poverty we’ll never know, and have real fears of being killed just because of who they are. Do not lecture me on your offering stats.

  • kate says:

    ‘…it started under President Bush,…’

needless to say i adore 41 too. heh.

  • Jared says:

Katy, Katy, Katy. Your post seems to insinuate that the pirates are terrorists by using the terms “national security crisis”! Silly girl. These pirates are not “terrorists.” Most of them are just poor fishermen who can’t make an honest living anymore. Because of economic conditions, they’ve become criminals and are basically the property and hands extended of war lords. They are just criminals driven to desperation by the inability of the failed, fractured Somali state to control its own waters against overfishing and pollution by other nations around it.

And the United States must take responsibility for the continuing instability of the Somali state. We make promises to them, like Ken the Cop so aptly pointed out, and do not keep them. We can directly thank the Bush family in toto for that.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be proud of our President. I think Barack did a great job. But I think we should temper our national pride as a nation, for being at least partially at fault for the conditions in Somalia which contributed to piracy. And who knows, if Barack’s economic plan fails like Rush Limblob and associates such as yourselves hope for, some of you may become lawless pirates out of necessity! Excluding Micky of course who already is one.

  • micky says:

“Micky. Your ideas and thoughts underwhelm me. I am not talking stats. I am talking real lives.”

“Do not lecture me on your offering stats.

No you were not talking “REAL LIVES” Please, read your own writing.
You made so such mention of that exception in your statement and I will quote you again refering to “STATS”

“He also has the compassion to deal with the less fortunate something conservatives like to hype with their stats about giving but in reality, they do not care.”

The stats are facts as Ken also mentioned.

Your own fault, Julie. You can’t come here and make an uninformed statement like that while at the same time calling Republicans cold and uncaring and not expect it. If that’s your way of saying “Thanks for teaching me something I didn’t know before.” then you are quite welcome.

“We make promises to them, like Ken the Cop so aptly pointed out, and do not keep them. We can directly thank the Bush family in toto for that.”

Perhaps you missed the part when I pointed out that it was BUSH who sent the troops in to help the U.N. mission and it was CLINTON that was retreated with tail tucked firmly between his legs. Again, get educated Jared you truly are clueless. Please tell us Jared, how are WE responsible for the current conditions in Somalia. Apparently Jared is part of the blame America first crowd.

  • micky says:

This comment has been in moderation for while due to the msnbc link so I’ll submit it to seperate post.
    Jared.
Let’s get one thing out the way first.
The last thing you say in your first post is a personal attack on me yet once again I’ll assume its only because your too uneducated to make a decent argument against my regards to the topic.
We went thru this sh*t the other day yet you still seem to want to validate my suspicions that you’re clueless.
I’m going to ask you again to knock the crap off and try to engage in something a little more productive or you can simply go on making an a$$ out of yourself like you just did but I will ignore you from that point on.

    On topic, you’re wrong.
The conditions in Somalia are not the fault of America whatsoever.
Somalians are upset over the dumping of radioactive waste in their country by Swedes and the French who supposedly have not done their part in cleaning it up resulting in polluted fishing waters.
This is what they say has killed their fishing industry, not any nations “around it ” as you claimed.
The United states is not responsible for helping to clean up the cause of all this by other countries, what we do is out of the kindness of our heart and in no way obligatory.
Fishing industry or not the present rule would still have the country in turmoil which brings me to the biggest question ever.
If these pirates are doing this for their country then why are the funds not reaching the people and why are they not stealing the aid supplies off the ship like what was on the Maersk Alabama ?
The fact is that its big business supported by international sponsors and the terrorist run state they live in, nothing goes to the people !!! Keep that tidbit around next time you guys start the bleeding heart stuff as to justify simple fricking crminals.
Here, I figure a MSNBC reference will make for a source harder you to argue against.
    .msnbc.msn.com

A national security crisis does not imply terrorism as you so falsely accused Kate of, but the fact is that Somalia “IS” governed by a terrorist regime. Attacking American targets abroad “does” effect the nations security as it could well be oil shipments or anything else our financial infrastructure would be dependent on in addition to the funds more than likely being used for weapons accumulation
Nice try at twisting what Ken said in that the failure and creation of instability was on the part of the Clinton administration.
Somalia was just another one of Clinton’s and the dems many failed attempts at foreign assistance or dealing with problems abroad, so if there’s any blame to go on the US its in that dept and it was under the Dems watch that it took place.

    ————

tell me Jared, what doesnt make sense about contradicting yourself underwhelming your appearance ?
I could of just said it makes her look like an idiot, but I figured I be nice and use her own ostentacious verbal display against her.

  • Ted says:

    >>Ken said: Now you know how we felt for 8 years dealing with the left under President Bush.

I wish I could confirm they had that capacity, but they don’t. I’ve been observing many different pol sites for years now, before even sites like FreeRepublic came along and really kicked off the different conservative and liberal sites, and there’s one consistency of belief that I have found among the liberal sites and blogs, and that in their viewpoint that the Constitution gives liberals the right to uplift liberalism and/or protest conservatives, but it doesn’t give conservatives the right to uplift conservatism and/or protest liberals. Oh, you might have an occasional lib who’ll claim they can empathize with your above statement, but they view their opposition to conservatism as being completely legit as compared to any conservative opposition to liberalism being completely illigitimate. Some of them come right out and say that conservatives voices should not even be allowed to be heard, and at least I can respect them for being honest about their viewpoints, unlike the overwhelming majority of liberals who agree with that sentiment but won’t admit it.

But what can I say to you that you haven’t already noticed yourself. Still, it’s good to do so in order to document that we’re all seeing the same things, and have for quite some time.

Consider how many times you, I and others here have expressed the fact of “after the last 8 years you behaved the way you did, and now you want us to just forget it and sing Kum Ba Yah as though we’re all in agreement.” Yet when we say it, WHOOOOSH!!!! right over them as though it was never said. Have you ever seen the left acknowledge that their own former actions were beyond the pale? Have you ever seen them stand in front of a mirror and honestly examine the things they say and do as compared to what the Founding Fathers intended when they wrote the Constitution? Probably not, and you likely never will. When they opposed Bush from day one it was A-OK and we had no right to say anything negative about their viewpoint or disposition. But, now when we oppose The One, we have no right to say anything negative about him or his policies. It’s “Freedom for me and not for thee” with the left, and has been for decades.

And in this case, once again, we have an incident that if the clock were turned back one year and Bush had done exactly what The One did, these libs who are praising The One would be condemning Bush. I am absolutely convinced that had Gore won in 2000 and for 8 years had said and done the exact same things that Bush said and did, the left who hated Bush would have loved Gore. Going to war against terrorism, the economy, (not) dealing with immigration, how the world views us, etc…; it was never really about Bush with the left, it was just about a Republican in office when it happened rather than a Democrat, that’s all. These libs have no core beliefs except to mindlessly do whatever the Dem party and liberal ideology tells them to do. So now some pirates were shot while The One is in office, and the libs are cheering their deaths. The One could nuke Iran and they’d cheer. The One could hand down a decree that carbon output will be permitted to double and the left would be happy and say that Mother Earth understands that a progressive is in office and would adjust in order to accomidate. They’re insane.

As I said, after observing them on-line for over a decade and in person, that it has nothing to do with policy and everything to do who’s in office, and that they have rights as liberals that should not be extended to conservatives, are a couple of the main consistencies about them.

  • Rope says:

Once again read what Ken said. Poor fishermen that manage to buy guns and boats, pirates that demand millions of dollars in ransom. I say pfffft. Just curious do you think this money is going to help the country? Not likely. An honest man works for what he gets, a coward steals.

    Ted.
You’re so lucky that you’ve been able to witness this from a safe distance.
Try being raised in and around these people and actually attempting to live that life style with not constantly loathing yourself to the point of subconcious suicide.
I managed to break free only after being sober long enough to actually get a clear view of what was happening to me and my family around me.
The disease has firmly gots its clutches on my mother to the point where my political beliefs have caused her to alienate herself from us, my wife, myself and my son, while saying people like us should be drowned at birth.
Upon hearing this the first conclusion most would come to is that its an isolated case where shes just organically ill but these sentiments are shared with her husband and friends also who avoid me like the plague. The passion seems to stem from idealism that really doesnt require the garnering of any specific type of leaders. You might be wrong in saying that they will let Obama get away with murder. It seems they’re starting to get a little upset now because hes actually adhering to Bushs sensible foreign policies.
Its one thing for people to be this way when they’re on line, anonymous and say things to peoples faces they would never say to them in person but these people are serious.
My wife works as a retail cashier and learned her lesson after a couple of instances where she voiced support for BUsh and these people damn near started a riot in the store running out screaming at her and just being maniacs in general.
Sorry, I just dont see conservatives making A holes out of themselves in public one bit as much as conservatives.
Matter of fact teres even some very prominent psychiatrists who’ve determined liberalism to be a mental disorder

    I’m sorry to hear that.

One of the main sites I check on from time to time is DU (democratic underground) and I have lost count of the threads I’ve read over there where members have purposely alienated themselves from members of their own family over political disagreements. Of course to hear them tell it, it’s always the “freeper” relatives who impose upon them, never the other way around, never their fault. The majority of these threads pop up around the holidays when families are expected to get together for meals and/or to enjoy each others company. Really sad. I can’t imagine isolating a family member over something as irrelevant as politics.

Dude. Are you smoking Lisa’s crack? This is an urban legend perpetuated by DU to promote the blog during the Bushy years. If you are going to malign the DU at least come up with something better then that.

    married and liberal.

why did barack obama murder three poor african teens?

  • lisab says:

barack doesn’t care about black people

  • lisab says:

and because of this, three poor fishermen are without sons

  • lisab says:

they want me to say, “let us not forget that barack obama has only been president for three months.” they want me to say, “barack and michelle mourn with the mothers of these three poor african boys, sons of fishermen.” but i say, “i have no more love to give! i have only anger in my heart today, and i want you to be angry with me!

i say, that i am sick and i am tired, and i want you to be sick and tired with me! i am sick and tired of going to the funerals of black men who have been murdered by black presidents worried about their approval ratings!

and i-i am sick and tired of the people of this counrty who continue to allow these things to happen!” what is an unalienable right if you are a teenage pirate? what does it mean, equal treatment under the law?

what-what does it mean, liberty and justice for all? now i say to these people, “look at the faces of these young boys, and you will see the face of a pirate. but if you look at the blood shed, it is red! it is red just like obama’s! it is red JUST… LIKE… YOURS!”

Nope, it’s the truth. $kimmer even announced one visit he was given and explained to his fellow DUmmies that if they couldn’t control their actions, his site could get shut down. I will say your explanation for it is original tho, but still a lie.

I believe that’s called “a lie”. Imagine that.
