barack obama can jet around for date nights; lobby in copenhagen for the olympics; and go to oslo next month to accept his nobel peace prize (that he admits he doesn’t deserve). he’s even reportedly touring asia next week. yet he can’t go to germany to attend the 20th anniversary celebration of the fall of the berlin wall. the fall of the berlin wall!
he’s sending hillary.
once again, obama proves he has no respect for our history and values as a country. the fall of the wall was a pivotal moment for our ally germany and was such a wonderful demonstration of american-inspired democracy in action. it is hardly a ‘non-event’. does obama just not get that? the reunification hasn’t been easy for germany but they’re doing their best to make it work and it’s something they can be proud of. americans and the west played a significant role in that – indeed, a beacon of hope for those not living in freedom.
some cynics might say obama’s not going to germany because there’s nothing there for him to apologize for. but i think rich lowry had it right when he compared obama’s not attending to jfk’s famous line to the germans ‘ich bin ein berliner’ (i am a berliner). for this 20th anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall, obama is telling them ‘ich bin beschaftigt’ which translates ‘i’m busy’.
here’s a few important memories from that time – which hardly seems like 20 years ago:

Of course, if Obama had gone to the Wall ceremony, we can be sure you all would complain that he was grandstanding. I can hear it all now:
“Obama is playing to his European fan base.”
“Obama is more popular over than than here.”
“Obama likes to read teleprompter speeches but doesn’t like to govern.”
But now, since he’s not going, the line of whine is this:
“obama proves he has no respect for our history and values as a country”
All too predictable.

do you not see the fall of the berlin wall as a pivotal event for democracy? do you not see the role the united states and the greater west played in that event? do you not see how this looks to someone like myself who sees obama as quick to jet here and there but not for this world (yes world) event ?
instead of calling it a whine, can you give me a reason why obama, as leader of the FREE world, shouldn’t go there?

I just went thru a lengthy debate on pot legalization with a moonbat who equates the legalization of pot in America to the removal of the Berlin wall.
Priceless.
Maybe that should give us all a little insight to the workings of the liberal mind

(To clarify, he’s broken promises left and right; he’s apologized for America to anyone that would listen; he’s cuddled with our adversaries and “wee-wee’d” on our friends; he defends wrongdoers (Gates) and calls the authorities actions “stupid”; he claims that spending $1,540,000,000,000 this year is the “answer” to our economic ills; he coddles his special interest friends and the unions – i.e. ILLEGALLY getting GM and Chrystler owned by the UNIONS and the American taxpayer; he supports a $1,300,000,000,000 bill that will mandate PRISON for those who don’t buy health insurance; and now, he’s showing that he considers this event – one of the PIVOTAL events in modern WORLD HISTORY not to be worthy of attending… and this in face of the fact that FLYING to NY for a date and FLYING to Copenhagen for the Olympic bid and FLYING to Colorado to plant a tree on earth day, etc. are apparently MORE important!)
This guy is a massive, inexperienced, selfish, non-leadership-showing, narcissistic FAILURE IN ACTION. Let’s hope he gets a clue and turns about before it’s too late for all of us.
Obama plays to his progressive base and also to the Muslim world community. To these groups Reagan represents American Exceptionalism, a movement AWAY from European socialism, and a dominant American military. Obama wants to move the country in a different direction, so why give Reagan any due ?
Either that or he was too busy trying to ram health care down our throats and he was tired and needed some rest.

Obama is obviously, clueless. As far as I am concerned, this sealed the deal. He has no awareness of history. Those who write the words for his tele prompters are just as clueless. Idiocracy has become a reality.
