My newest column at American Issues Project is live, titled Obama’s Stimulus Failure. Here is an excerpt:
It’s interesting that this would be the argument that Obama would use now. When the stimulus package was making its way through Congress, Obama and the Democrats told us that it needed to be passed immediately because without it, the economy would completely crash. One of their biggest excuses for ramming the legislation through quickly, without even thoroughly reading it, was that unemployment rate would supposedly skyrocket. It needed to be passed immediately to stem the economic bleeding, so to speak. And now Obama tells us that it’s actually a “two-year plan”. If it really is a two-year plan, then why was there so much of a rush to pass it earlier in the year? Could it be because Obama and congressional Democrats didn’t want Americans to have time to understand what the stimulus package really was: a pork-filled spending bonanza?
Obama’s claim that we were losing 700,000 jobs a month coming into his administration is interesting, as well, considering we did lose over 700,000 jobs… in February and March, after Obama took office. Since the stimulus bill has been passed, we’ve lost an incredible 16,000 jobs a day. At 9.5 percent, the unemployment rate is the highest it’s been in 26 years. Yet, the stimulus package was touted as a job-saver. Obama’s now trying to come up with an excuse for why it’s not working, and it’s a shoddy one at that. When the stimulus package was passed, we were told that without it, the unemployment rate would reach 8.8 percent. The stimulus package would supposedly keep it at below 8 percent… this year. This chart proves his intentions, and proves that the stimulus package was a failure. Obama is lying, and he knows it.
Be sure to read the whole thing.
Instead of a 2 year plan could it be a five year plan? That has a much nicer ring to it.
The peasants of the USSA can with a heroic effort reduce carbon emissions 15% over the next 5 years. The motherland demands this, and the people will do their part!
Good one, BobV, and very likely what President Obama has floating around in the back of his mind.
I still say that a better (and cheaper) plan to stimulate the economy would have been to collect zero federal income tax for 2009.
I got laid off at Hawker Beechcraft on 26 February. Didn’t take long did it? And when you build one of the things the left derides, that being corporate aircraft, unless it is for them to go to there retreats and conferences to save the environment, it puts one in different class.
Just for a here you go, there are about 10,000 laid off aircraft workers in Kansas. The cities affected are Wichita(The Air Capital), Salina and Independence. Production rates have gone from as many as 5-6 aircraft a week to 2 and 3 on this line alone. The jet lines have gone from 50-60 a year to 10 or less. Learjet is on an eight day move on the 40/45 final line. The difference being the 40 is two feet shorter than the 45. Cessna just cancelled the Citation Columbus program. It was looking to be a really good airplane. The ground was being readied for the new plant and now it’s leveled bare ground and nothing else. Spirit Aerosystems was going to provide the composite fuselage. The program would have added about 1,000 new jobs to the local economy and now it’s gone. Poof! Just like that.
And we are not getting the extension from chairman zero-bozo and company for UI bennies. We voted overwhelmingly for McCain-Palin in Kansas.
Just saying, ya know. And the IAM&AW couldn’t care less, because they are on the obambozo ownership committee.
If he says the first Stimulus is working, why is talk of a second one being bantered about?
