Memorial Day, Libtard Style

Memorial Day, Libtard Style

While most of us good, decent Americans are remembering our heroes this Memorial Day, we all know that there’s a whole other class of Americans out there who absolutely hate our troops and are probably seething at the thought of our heroes being remembered.

Here’s a few examples. Over at the DU, we have our first libtard of the day. proud2Blib put up a post entitled “My Memorial Day t-Shirt” with this picture:

Response from other DUmmies was generally positive. A few said they would wear similar shirts, or Impeach Bush shirts to their parades or ceremonies — because, you know, Memorial Day is all about politics and putting down the President rather than remembering our fallen heroes. Charming, huh?

Next, over at the DailyKos, we have a lovely diary from Coolobserver.

Yet another Memorial Day is upon us, and our president sez: “No group has ever done more to defend liberty than the men and women of the United States armed forces.” This simple reality presents me with a genuine conundrum. How in the world can I pick which indomitable defenders of liberty to honor this year?

Perhaps I can spend my day in quiet contemplation of those valiant heroes who unselfishly risk the agony of carpal tunnel syndrome as they push the buttons and/or computer keys to launch those cruise missiles into crowded Third World cities. The same goes for America’s many courageous snipers and fearless bomber pilots…all of them using their fingers and eyes to preserve our way of life.

I owe my liberty to them…

Of course, I could instead dedicate myself to worshipping the gallant warriors who put their feet and toes on the line each time they repeatedly kick a prone, chained, and blindfolded prisoner at Gitmo. (Oops, did I say “prisoner”? I mean “enemy combatant,” of course.) These resolute patriots also expose their vocal cords to excruciating injury when they engage in the selfless daily practice of screaming at such evildoers. One can only imagine the mental strain of coming up with new epithets each and every day-day and day, year after year.

Thanks to them, I am free…

Then again, the epic exploits of America’s latest generation are nothing new. This country was built on centuries of similar deeds and efforts. Remember: America would never be able to spread its values all over the planet without those men and women who volunteer to make it happen. Could you imagine what life on Earth would be without the pervasiveness of American values?

That’s right. Use Memorial Day as an excuse to smear and slander our troops. Way to go, asshat.

Code Pink is calling for their fellow Pinkos to protest all across the country:

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. This Memorial Day, we invite you to take time to remember those who have been killed in war, and honor their memory by calling for an end to the occupation of Iraq with freeway bannering an a visit to your Congressperson’s office.

Yes… rather than decorating a tomb or memorial, hang banners on your area freeways condemning the war! Visit your congressman! Alert the media! Protest, protest, protest! This is how the Code Pinkos want you to spend your Memorial Day — not by remembering the fallen and showing gratitude for their sacrifice, but by protesting. I’m sure that makes soldiers feel appreciated, doesn’t it?

Libtards have such a special way of showing their gratitude to our troops, don’t they?

Please. There is no kicking of chained prisoners…

    They use those nylon zip-cuffs now… 🙂

Wow. There are four very positive stories on Daily Kos (that I’ve found so far) for Memorial Day, including one favorable to a Dem proposal to provide additional compensation to those troops who have been stop-lossed, and you find this one to comment on. Excellent reporting. Looks like someone drank their hater-ade this morning.

On the other hand, respect also means being honest about the warts, too. The abuses are real, and IMHO are a greater insult to the rest of the troops than anything the Daily Kos or any other blogger could ever possibly do.

Being honest about the “warts” is one thing, but Memorial Day is about honoring those who paid the ultimate price in the defense of this country, and the “warts” can just take the damn day off.

As an analogy, you don’t introduce the recipient of an acting award by pointing out what an a**hole the person was while on the set, you introduce them by praising the work that they did to win the award, and you leave the complaints about their behavior for another day, instead of attacking them during the awards ceremony, and ruining their evening. Whether you like them or not. But Liberals don’t seem to understand common decency like that.

How very decent of you to say. I’m not saying the writer made the best move, but Cassy’s article cherry-picks the most inflammatory points of these blogs and disregards the much larger swath of common-ground.

Making general statements about liberals is like making general statements about mammals. We disagree amongst ourselves about a lot of things. So say what you want about the group, you’ll be wrong about at least half of us.

  • WayneB says:

There’s a reason that Conservatives use a capital “L” when writing the word Liberal. I forgot that it wasn’t a ubiquitous usage yet – it means the far-Left Liberal who cannot seem to make any positive statements about anyone who disagrees with them without adding a disclaimer or following up with, “but…”. I realize that there are liberals out there who can be reasonable and discuss disagreements without resorting to ad hominem attacks, but the Capital-L Liberal is basically used to denote those who DON’T fall into that category.

  • baz says:

See, here’s the thing: Conservatives don’t get to define what liberal means, big-L or little-l. Words are defined by their most common usage, and your usage hasn’t made it into the general parlance. I read a lot of political commentary, and don’t see this usage except when used as a slander.

So the very word “Liberal” is an ad hominem attack, right?

So does big-C Conservatism refer to nationalists/fascists/brownshirts who would attack someone for being Muslim or for wearing Muslim attire? That would be the parallel…

  • Chaz says:

Fascists? The only ideology fascism is to the right of is communism, and then just barely. We conservatives tend to like our government limited, rather than our day to day lives limited by government.
