“Washington, D.C. (Reuters) — Washington D.C. officials claimed victory today after successfully forcing President Obama to fulfill a campaign promise to beautify the the capital for the Christmas season. Last October, then candidate Senator Obama promised city officials $100 million dollars for a city-wide effort to clean up the city and create jobs in time for Christmas 2010. President Obama later reneged on that promise citing too great a financial expense for too few jobs, angering many in the African American community who have seen unemployment among blacks rise to Depression era levels in recent weeks.
In a compromise worked out today, President Obama agreed to beautify the city for the Christmas season by sending his wife Michelle back to Illinois for the Christmas holiday. Washington D.C.’s city elders were overjoyed stating, “This is better than we could have hoped. We expect the tourism increase alone will more than offset the loss of Federal spending.” Mayor Daley of Chicago had no comment on this stunning turn of events.”
