Some idiot celebrity named Aubrey O’Day was on Hannity last night with Erick Erickson talking about Rep. Diane Watson’s remarks about Fidel Castro. For those who haven’t heard what she had to say, Michelle’s got the quote:
It was just mentioned to me by our esteemed speaker, “Did anyone say anything about the Cuban health system?”
And lemme tell ya, before you say “Oh, it’s a commu–”, you need to go down there and see what Fidel Castro put in place. And I want you to know, now, you can think whatever you want to about Fidel Castro, but he was one of the brightest leaders I have ever met. [APPLAUSE]
And you know, the Cuban revolution that kicked out the wealthy, Che Guevara did that, and then, after they took over, they went out among the population to find someone who could lead this new nation, and they found…well, just leave it there (laughs), an attorney by the name of Fidel Castro…
That, of course, is completely idiotic and disgusting, to praise a murderous dictator like Fidel Castro and a bloodthirsty mercenary like Che Guevara. I know that it’s like, so totally hip in liberal circles to idolize Che and Castro, but in reality, they’re two of the most hated men on the planet. Che Guevara wasn’t a “revolutionary” who kicked out the wealthy in order to make life better for the “little people”. Che Guevara was a savage driven by bloodlust who killed on Castro’s orders, quite gleefully. And Fidel Castro is a brutal communist dictator, one who makes his people live in such fear that they are willing to risk swimming 90 miles through shark-infested waters to the United States. If the Cuban health care system is so great, then why do so many Cubans come here, fleeing from oppression? Cuba isn’t a great country run by a brilliant leader, it’s a country of oppression and tyranny run by a dictatorial, murdering, communist despot who quite frankly needs to hurry up and die, already.
But for celebrities, Che chic is all the rage. Castro is someone they see as wise and admirable. And for celebrity idiot singer Aubrey O’Day, he’s apparently “brilliant”… just like Hitler.
She later made a lame attempt to “clarify” her statements, saying:
“Murderers and dictators generally are some of the smartest people out there – they just use their brain power for evil purposes. I don’t condone any of their evil behavior, but I was asked about their intellectual firepower… and in my opinion you can’t have a low IQ and wreck [sic] that much havoc on the world. What Hitler succeeded in doing, was deplorable… And I hope we never see such an abusive use of power again.”
… “I was a college student on a program called Semester at Sea, through that program chosen political science students attended a half day seminar of Fidel Castro and his thoughts on basically everything except Cuba’s relationship with the US, lol. It was very interesting.”
So, their behavior is inexcusable, but hey, they were some pretty dang smart guys and you gotta admire them for what they were able to pull off, huh??
I don’t understand what it is about Fidel Castro that makes liberals idolize him so. Is it the beard? His rockin’ fashion sense? The smooth way he was able to murder and enslave his people? What? And you know, the same goes for Che Guevara. I know that he looks, like, so dreamy in his little beret, but it doesn’t excuse what he did, except for brain-dead liberals who fancy themselves as fellow “revolutionaries”.
As for Aubrey O’Day… this is just another example of how celebrities need to keep their mouths shut unless someone has scripted the words for them.

That does not excuse of course her gushing over them.
What is it with leftists and dictators? They cry fascism and oppression all the time when they’re out of power, but then seem to love it when they’re in power. Do they not realize that self-described intellectuals are usually among the first up against the wall when they get their glorious revolution? It’s not an aberration, it happens every single time. They ought to know this.
There are easier ways to commit suicide if that’s their goal.

“script”, after casual observers point out they’ve become a “useful idiot” (let’s call them pseudo intellectuals-it SOUNDS cooler) recognize that great evil take great brilliance, are they going to STOP the metronomic proclaimation of the yet to be demonstrated “brilliance” of President Obama, and his band of appointed “personal advisers”(Czars)?
Tell me again why Ms. O’Day was invited to sit at the “grown up” table discussing um..political science.
Can I expect to hear her reiterate her reasoned opinion with a panel of experts, including Aston Kutcher , on Bill Maher’s comedy show any time soon?
Maybe a face to face debate with Jon Voight , on ANY show originating from Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan?
Will I have to do the tantrum thing while I wait, and hold my breath until I…um, turn “Blue”
Cylar says: The Left idolizes dictators because of what dictators can do in the countries where they rule:
Impose policy by fiat without having to get it past a political opposition party first. In short, rule by decree.
That’s what the Left wants – either for their individual selves, or some other individual whom they trust because he thinks like they do. They want power. Power over the lives of other individuals, especially the ones who refuse to bow down to their chosen idols.
It’s really that simple. It entirely explains their obsession with a “public health care option” and with “climate change.” Enacting legislation on either one would ultimately grant them and their friends more power over the way the rest of us live our lives – what we eat, where we shop, what we spend money on, and eventually how we think. (The latter is why they see homeschooling as such a threat.)
The love of dictators is part and parcel of the Left’s unquenchable thirst for power over their fellow human beings. They want to be like Castro, Stalin, Hitler, and other famous despots because these men had the power to have people shot for not going along with the program. That’s the unaccountably authority that they crave.
