Did they think this through?

I’m trying to figure out if Obama supporters made this video or if McCain supporters did. It’s hard to say. I think the Obama camp did make it, given the portrayal of McCain and Palin.

Anyone familiar with Les Miserables? If you are, you’ll appreciate the idiocy of this video.

I rolled my eyes when I saw this. For those who don’t know, I am a singer. From middle school through high school, I had vocal training and concentrated mainly on Broadway-style singing — Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Oklahoma!, and yes, Les Miserables. On My Own was — and still is — one of my favorite songs to sing. So, you know, I’m familiar with the plot of Les Mis. It’s why I was unsure if this video was made intentionally by someone in the tank for Obama.

I just hav to wonder, did these idiots research Les Mis before they decided to use it? I really don’t think so. It seems pretty fitting: the “revolutionary” students fighting back against “The Man” and all, but… well… the revolution fails. They lose. The students in Les Mis are fighting for the working class, and so I guess I can see how they would think it would be fitting to use for a video. But Les Mis is not an inspiring musical… it isn’t one that particularly makes one think of victory and strength, and especially doesn’t make one think of nice, pleasant things like HOPE! and CHANGE!.

I’m just wondering what message they’re trying to send here. If they wanted to do Les Mis, they could’ve picked a better song than One Day More. I’d have chosen Do You Hear The People Sing?.

I snickered watching that a bit because I swear to God, it sounds like something that would come out of the mouths of Obama fans. NO MORE SLAVERY! ELECT OBAMA AND BE FREE! OVERTHROW THE FASCISTS!

The fact that the revolution is unsuccessful is what keeps bugging me, though. Do the Obama supporters accept defeat, vowing that one day God will fulfill their dreams and elect Obama? I don’t know. It’s all pretty ridiculous.

I will say, the singers in the video are spectacular, though.

    I think it is a lip-sync.

And I think it was Obama–they seem not to be able to think anything through.

It’s still spectacular singing, lip-synced or not. 😉

  • Oh, Lord. Cassy, it would appear you’ve got multiple fans just within my household alone. Richly deserved.

The misuse of Les Mis makes me think of something one Rob Case left over at my place a few days ago…

The idea of angels taking care of everything for those of the superior heart is a recurrent theme in the novels of one of the most popular liberals of all time – Charles Dickens. It always amused me reading his heroes, how often characters like Oliver Twist, Pip and Esther – those who had the correct conscience – invariably relied on the easy money flowing from wealthy benefactors and inheritances. Somehow he had trouble connecting purity of thought with the practical business of housing and feeding oneself.

He was actually commenting on the ancient Chinese fable about the foolish old man who removed the mountains.

So perhaps this addresses your objection. It isn’t so much whether the peasants win the election/revolution; it’s whether they are pure of heart, so the gawdz move the mountains around for them. Being over doing.
