Tonight the GOP candidates will duke it out on the debate stage, but first Rand Paul had some business to attend to.
Simi Valley, Calif. – Ahead of the second GOP primary debate Wednesday night at the Reagan Library, Senator Rand Paul hit the gun range to shoot the 80,000 page long IRS tax code with an AR-15 (a modified model to meet strict California firearms law), a 1911 9mm pistol and a semi-automatic shotgun.
“We don’t have like a grenade launcher?” Paul said to reporters at the range, adding that shooting was a good way to relieve some stress before the debate. “I like getting out and shooting, as you can see I’m a novice but at least I hit the target.”
That’s right, flat tax supporter Rand Paul took out his frustrations on the tax code today. Let’s be honest, even if you aren’t a flat tax supporters, we’d all like to do the same. This is the Rand Paul his supporters love; spunky, fearless, and without mask. He’s not even my candidate of choice, but no one can deny that when it comes to protecting the rights of American citizens, few candidates even come close to nipping at his heals; the Second Amendment is definitely not excluded.

In case you didn’t know, Rand Paul really, really hates the tax code, and he’s never been shy about it. In July the below video was released showing various ways in which someone could dispose of the tax code; however, I like the idea of using the bloated pile of government waste as target practice even more. What can I say, I like to recycle.
Under Rand Paul’s tax plan, payroll tax would be eliminated, and a flat 14.5 percent income tax would be put in place. Whether you support such a change or not, this would eliminate the need for credits, deductions, a lot of Tylenol, and various cocktails.
Rand also made it clear that while his form of debate prep was quite the show, his involvement in the debate may deliver some fun as well.
The Kentucky senator threw a wide range of attacks at Trump on Tuesday when speaking to CNN’s John Berman on “The Lead.” Paul said Trump was out of line with the Republican Party on eminent domain, Obamacare and tax issues — something Paul said he planned to showcase during CNN’s Republican debate on Wednesday evening.
“When Americans know that, when conservatives know that, they’re going to run away with their hair on fire,” Paul said, pledging his attacks would focus on issues, not personality or looks. “I really haven’t called him ugly. I haven’t been calling other candidates ugly.”
I imagine Trump isn’t shaking in his boots (those who lack self-awareness rarely do), but hopefully people are listening well tonight, not only to the points other candidates are making, but also to the objections they have to Trump’s so called “conservative” stances.
No matter who you support, we can all admit that Rand Paul gave us a smile with this stunt.
