Much was made out of the fact that Melania Trump stayed in New York City to let Barron Trump finish his school year. This weekend, Melania and Barron moved to Washington.

News flash, media – this is an 11 year old boy who just finished 5th grade. I happen to know quite a lot about this type of boy because I currently have one in my house. Would you have preferred that Barron wear one of my son’s favorite shirts – the Lego Batman one that says “Relax Everybody, I’m Here”? Did you want him in a suit and tie? Do you never want him to appear like any other 11 year old boy?
I know this is going to be hard, media, because Barron is the first presidential son to live in the White House since John F. Kennedy, Jr. (Yes, I just looked that up. All the other presidents since the Kennedy administration have only had daughters living in the White House. If the president had a son, he was an adult living elsewhere, not a minor child.) Consider this your opportunity to learn about what preadolescent boys in the 21st century actually wear and do in their off time. Seriously, stop freaking out and let Barron Trump be as normal a boy as possible.
Darleen Click says: My twin grandsons are 14 but for years wear a variety of t-shirts – faves being anything Star Wars or Military themes.
Can you imagine the howls if Barron was wearing an Izod golf shirt?
GWB says: While I recognize that he’s a pre-teen, I would prefer that he show some measure of respect for the White House on his “first day”. Part of the decline of the culture we always despair about. Maybe encourage it with “Dude, you’re about to ride Marine One! Up your game!”

Aidan says: It’s not his first day in the WH. He was there from the beginning. But yes, he & his Mom kept his residence in NY for the remainder of the school year. Shocker, I know.
