For what it’s worth:
Do you believe there wasn’t a pregnancy pact? I don’t know that I do, but it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t change the utter foolishness of getting pregnant on purpose as a teenager.
If I ever have daughters of my own, I’ll try to strike a fine balancing line between being authoritative enough to let them know that they’re going to get a serious earful if they end up pregnant outside of at least a loving, committed relationship (I wouldn’t freak out if they weren’t married at the time as long as they were willing to deal with the consequences of their actions and try to work out the best way to go from there), and being tolerant and easygoing enough for them not to be too afraid to actually tell me.
Phew, that was a long sentence. Anyway, that’s what I INTEND to do, but how I’d actually do it if faced with it is totally beyond me. I’m damn sure though, that when schools have the attitude that “well, they’re going to do it anyway so why don’t we hand out the pill like it’s candy”, they’re just making the problem even worse.
