Media coverage of the shooting yesterday by three Muslims (two men and a woman) dressed in body armor with illegal assault rifles focused on “workplace violence” From the New York Post:
A fight at a holiday party turned into a scene of mass carnage in an LA suburb on Wednesday — as a man who stormed out of the festivities returned with two pals and opened fire on the crowd, killing 14, sources said.
Workplace violence? Really?
A couple big problems with this: first one is that assault rifles are banned in California. Not that these killers were concerned about being law abiding citizens nor did they get the guns at Big 5. And workplace violence does not explain the pipe bombs and body armor.
Hours later, cops caught up with the vehicle — and the men lobbed pipe bombs during a chase that ended when the Yukon Denali was finally surrounded on a quiet San Bernardino street.
The Post to it’s credit updated the story: they described the killers as Muslims. And mentioned the strong possibility of this being domestic terrorism:
No motive was immediately determined, but the Joint Terrorism Task Force was investigating and the city’s police chief declared early Thursday, “We have not ruled out terrorism.”
“This was not a casual workplace argument,” one law enforcement source told The Post. “It’s a well-planned and thought-out attack.”
“Preliminary information indicates that these were people that came prepared, that they were dressed and equipped in a way to indicate that they were prepared,” San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said at a press conference.
He later added, “They came in with a purpose — they came in with an intent.”
What the intent is will be determined later. Right now, this is a planned and executed murder spree. In a gun free zone by three cowards. I strongly suspect this is domestic terrorism. Now as for the guns, the guns did not wake up and hop down the street looking for mayhem to create. Humans went looking for other humans to murder. The tools used were guns. Workplace violence was not the cause.
My heart truly breaks and my prayers are with the victims and their families and all the people at the Inland Regional Center.
Actually, I don’t see a reason why it can’t be both workplace violence and Islamic terrorism. It’s not impossible that Syed Farook said to himself, “I’m gonna kill some infidels for Allah, and I’ll start with the yahoos I work with.”
