Mature, Obama. Real mature.
Here’s the issue. For the sake of argument, let’s just say Barack Obama was correct in what he was saying. Was there any reason to be yelling at the elderly lady questioning you? Sure, maybe it ruffled his feathers. Sure, her tone was a little confrontational. So what? As President, many many people will be doing exactly that. Every time someone questions Obama or gets a little confrontational with him, is he going to lose his composure and yell at them, too?
I think the issue here is that Obama is seeing his perfect campaign, his image as the Anointed One, the feeling of inevitability, all of it — he’s seeing it slip away. And he doesn’t know what to do. So that feeling of self-assuredness and confidence is gone, as is his charm and eloquence.
And you know, I wouldn’t have a huge problem with Obama yelling at Hugo Chavez or Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. But when a voter asks you a tough question and you can’t handle it, so you yell at her, there’s a problem. And let’s be real. Her question was not out of line. It’s not against the rules to ask the Obamamessiah a tough question about national security, and to tell him you want specifics.
But clearly, Obama can’t handle that.

Saddam and 9-11/misinformation by the Bush Administration? Umm, I’d like to see any evidence from this Administration linking Saddam to 9-11. They never did. Of course Obama will get a pass on that one. Right, ABC News fact checkers?
Yeah this happened before the Iowa Caucus… all over the news then.
Real classy of him.
Someone should of asked him about his civilian national security force. Sign me up for the Barrack-O Gestapo, I already have a great uniform designed. Ok I lied I stole it from some German guys, only I had to replace the symbol on the armband with a giant “O”.
I don’t think she was outta line in the least. Any less confrontational than that, and you’re just tossing him more softballs. It’s the question he should’ve answered a long time ago.
Oh leave him alone, Cassy. The man was obviously suffering cocaine and cigarette withdrawl. You’d be crabby too. : )
I hate Obama. But I actually thought he was fine here.
By the way, thanks for the verb “man up” that I saw on a different part of your old blog. I like it so much I’m going to use it to describe an item on my morning routine… it fits to a tee.
Christoph,
Unless there’s some footage I’m missing, he evaded the question completely and didn’t even do that great of a job pretending to answer it. Of the people he’s trying to win over, I daresay there’s a broad consensus that it is the most critical question hovering over this year’s election, and since it was by no means a triviality four years ago it follows that he’s had oodles of time to think on it. It’s obvious he can’t answer it. Obvious, as in, he practically advertised it.
How can you possibly say he did alright?
