I am a mother. Period. Dot. Finis. Should anyone ever need to know anything about me, should those who survive me need material for my epitaph, THAT is all they need to know. I have brought into this world four amazing little (not so much any longer) beings and I have brainwashed them into thinking they are awesome- because they are.

Twenty-six weeks. That was the point of gestation at which my only daughter was taken from my own body so that both she and I would live. As I read the posts my fellow blogesses write about Gosnell, I am stunned, shocked, disgusted, saddened, and purely effing angered by the notion that an abortion is allowed up to two weeks before my own daughter was born. Nevermind the entire argument over “when a fetus becomes a person”, the fact that humanity finds it acceptable to kill and dispose of a life a mere two weeks younger than the child I told two hours ago to brush her teeth is just unfathomable to me.

When ROS Part Deux was born, there were several babies in the NICU even younger than she- and they survived. They were these tiny little versions of humans who cried and ate and grew bigger and stronger every day in unvoiced eff you’s to those who doubted they would make it- but make it they did. They amazed me.

That said, I am by profession a scientist- a mad, mad scientist. I work specifically in reproductive science concerning large animals.  From a blastocyst to birth, it is my duty to ensure those four-legged lives see the light of day. Never at any time in the cycle of those lives are they not considered living beings, so why is that not the case with people?

Have we really become a society so callous that we cringe at and lament an animal being used for food, yet we treat as the proverbial elephant a veritable Holocaust Redux with our own children, the most innocent of lives?

Yes, we really have.  As a mother, I cannot allow that to stand.
