Connecticut: Citizens Ignoring the Mandate to Register Their Guns

Remember the images of people lining up in Connecticut to register their weapons?  Turns out that only about 4% of the populace obeyed the dictators.  The rest hung on to their firearms and refuse to register them, leaving the government in the unenviable position of 1) not knowing who has what, and 2) having to coax them in—since the threats didn’t work.

Amid concerns about gun owners who failed in their last-minute attempts to register now-illegal assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines, lawmakers are considering granting an amnesty period for people who missed the registration deadline.

The comprehensive gun-control bill enacted last spring required owners of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines to register the guns and declare ownership of the magazine if they wished to keep them.

They claim that the amnesty is needed because so many well-meaning citizens tried to register their guns but post office closings kept them from getting it postmarked by Dec 31.  They spin the fact that only 4% of state gun owners even bothered to pay attention to the law at all.

Connecticut is going to have some ruckus on their hands if they push this.  Let’s hope the gun owners remember that they outnumber the State’s goons.
