It’s On: U.S. and Arab Coalition Begin Airstrikes in Syria

On the heels of the news that ISIS fighters are indeed in the United States, the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize has pulled the trigger on striking ISIS targets in Syria. Never mind if the strikes are constitutional or not, their fresh admission that ISIS is already on U.S. soil, thereby presenting an imminent threat, is likely all the justification the Obama Administration needs to bypass Congress…again. Lead by the United Arab Emirates, the coalition is reportedly without any European allies, but enjoys several Arab nation partners including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, and, hold onto your hats, Qatar.

From Rear Admiral John Kirby:

“Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time,” Kirby added in a statement. “The decision to conduct theses strikes was made earlier today by the U.S. Central Command commander under authorization granted him by the commander in chief. We will provide more details later as operationally appropriate.”

US Aircraft include B-1 bombers, F-16s, F-18s and Predator drones, with F-18s flying missions off the USS George H.W. Bush in the Persian Gulf. Tomahawk missiles were fired from the destroyer USS Arleigh Burke in the Red Sea.

President Obama on Sept. 10 authorized U.S. airstrikes inside Syria as part of a broad campaign to root out the Islamic State militant group also known as ISIS and ISIL.”
