2011 Bin Laden Raid: Biden and Clinton Enter Into a Game of He-Said, She-Said

2011 Bin Laden Raid: Biden and Clinton Enter Into a Game of He-Said, She-Said

Seems as if Joe Biden is attempting to rewrite his own history.

In a forum yesterday honoring former Vice President Walter Mondale, Biden casually mentioned that that only then-CIA chief Leon Panetta was in favor of the 2011 bin Laden raid but he indeed was not opposed to the raid-adding a new spin to the story stating that he was not in favor of the attack.

Biden Added:

“There were only two people who were definitive and were absolutely certain. Leon Panetta said go, [Defense Secretary] Bob Gates … said don’t go. Others were at 59-41, having Clinton among those who were on the fence.

Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner and former secretary of state, has claimed she recommended to Obama that he ‘go ahead,’ while his advisers were split.

I told him [privately] my opinion that I thought he should go, but to follow his own instincts. I never, on a difficult issue, never say what I think finally until I go up in the Oval [Office] with him alone.”

But Hillary Clinton’s accounts are different, indicating that Biden opposed the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound. In Clinton’s memoir, “Hard Choices,” she wrote that Biden and Gates opposed the operation but she supported it. Several sources also corroborated Biden’s opposition to the raid, including past statements to House Democrats in 2012, a similar account from President Obama at a 2012 debate with Mitt Romney and accounts from Leon Panetta. This was an account from 2012:

Despite all accounts that have Joe Biden on the opposing side of the issue, the vice president is now stating that he told Obama in a one-on-one conversation to go ahead with the mission.

That Joe! He’s a clever one, isn’t he? Want to take a shot at a Presidential run? You’d better change that story about opposing that 2011 Abbottabad raid! And while you’re at it, slither in a few jabs at ol’ Hillary…you know, for grins:

“I still have a lot of Republican friends,” Biden said, jabbing at Clinton’s remark during last week’s debate that she sees the GOP as her “enemy.” Biden claimed that he would work across the aisle with Republicans and carry on the legacy of Obama.

The legacy of Obama. That alone should send us running for the hills. Convenient though how the story as Joe knows it has changed. Is he going senile? Or is it quite possibly that our VP seeks an opportunity to backpedal, LIE and get on the same side of the issue as his opponent with the declining poll numbers? Ask Biden’s office? Meh. They don’t answer their phone calls. Ask Josh Earnest? He knows nothing.

We won’t talk about Hillary and lying just yet. I am sure that she will get plenty of love from us on that very topic tomorrow. So we move back to Joe for the time being. Was it a “don’t do it”? Was it “pull the trigger”? Or was it “take one more pass with the UAV”? It will be interesting to see how this plays out should Biden decide to run for 2016 but we think his slick storytelling here may be casting caution to the wind. Clinton and Biden vying for 2016. One lies and the other-well-lies. The smarm is becoming thick. So thick, I just might need a shower…
