Lincoln Chafee Ends Vanity Bid For Nomination

There is one less candidate seeking the Democratic nomination. Former Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee (first R, then I, then D – a man of great consistency) has finally thrown in the towel.

Chafee, who has struggled to gain traction in the polls, announced his decision at a Women’s Leadership Forum conference where other candidates also were speaking.

“After much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today,” Chafee said, while reminding the audience of his “prosperity through peace” campaign slogan. Appealing for less U.S. military intervention abroad, he said: “I would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace.”

Chafee leaves the race with only one clear difference between him and any other Democratic candidate.

He was widely mocked for his call to convert the United States to the metric system, though his veiled criticism of Clinton occasionally earned him a headline.

I guess America is stuck with the Imperial system until some future brave leader builds his platform again on conversion to the metric system.

In the meantime, no one really noticed Lincoln Chafee in this race until he was some unknown guy on a stage with Hillary Clinton, and no one is really going to notice that he’s gone, either.
