Harry Truman had a sign on his desk in the Oval Office which read “The Buck Stops Here.” Hillary Clinton would have a sign that reads, “The Buck Never Got Here.” Or perhaps, “Someone Else Has the Buck.”
Now Hillary is (once again) trying to pawn off her duplicity surrounding her misuse of emails by blaming a former Secretary of State, Gen. Colin Powell. A New York Times article is reporting today that Clinton told the FBI that Powell had advised her to use private email for official business:
Pressed by the F.B.I. about her email practices at the State Department, Hillary Clinton told investigators that former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell had advised her to use a personal email account.
But, the timeline of that doesn’t wash, according to an upcoming book by Joe Conason. According to Conason, the deed had already been done by the time Powell spoke with Clinton. She had already set up her private server, as revealed in a conversation held months prior at a dinner party with former Secretary of State Madeline Albright. Conason writes:
“Toward the end of the evening, over dessert, Albright asked all of the former secretaries to offer one salient bit of counsel to the nation’s next top diplomat. Powell told her to use her own email, as he had done, except for classified communications, which he had sent and received via a State Department computer. Saying that his use of personal email had been transformative for the department,” Mr. Powell “thus confirmed a decision she had made months earlier — to keep her personal account and use it for most messages.”
