Obama: YouTube Selfies Over Foreign Policy

President Obama’s SOTU victory lap has some foreign policy hiccups. This week, House Speaker John Boehner extended an invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress in March.

Holy smokes! You would’ve thought the White House was zapped by a cattle prod!! The sputtering and squawking started immediately.  According to Bridget Johnson of PJ Media:

White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters onboard Air Force One today that they hadn’t heard about the invitation from the Israelis at all, and “this particular event seems to be a departure from that protocol.”

“The protocol would suggest that the leader of one country would contact the leader of another country when he’s traveling there,” Earnest said.

Did you catch that? Yes, the President and the White House are mad at Boehner, but that’s not their focus. Instead they are informing a world leader that any invitation to come to the US has to get approval from the President. That also means no one else gets to invite a world leader to the US without the Duffer In Chief giving his majestic approval. And of course, the world has been snippily informed that President Obama will NOT deign to consider a meeting with Netanyahu while he is in the US. However, Raul Castro will likely have the red carpet rolled out for him in spades. Honestly, if I were Bibi, I’d be thrilled I didn’t have to see the President, considering Obama’s juvenile antics at previous meetings.

Meanwhile, Yemen has been overrun by Shiite rebels known as Houthis. We have embassy personnel on high alert, some have left the country, and others are ready to leave at a moment’s notice. This is the same country, a strong ally of the US, that President Obama crowed about last fall. In August, the White House reported:

In their meeting today at the White House, President Barack Obama and President Abdo Rabu Mansour Hadi of Yemen affirmed their desire to broaden and strengthen the U.S.-Yemen relationship. President Obama reiterated the United States’ support for the stability, security, prosperity, and unity of Yemen.

By the way, the US support for Yemen included shipping prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to that country for the last two years. Who knows where those GITMO prisoners are now. In the meantime, the White House has been strangely silent regarding Yemen’s Presidential Palace being overrun and President Hadi along with the cabinet resigning on Thursday. Thus far, the only real “statement” from Obama is that he won’t send anymore GITMO prisoners to Yemen. I’m SURE Yemen is greatly appreciative and impressed with receiving such “strong” support.
