Flowing Wells School District: Because Second Graders Won’t Ever Need the 2nd Amendment

The Flowing Wells Unified School District located northwest of Tucson, AZ has decided to take nanny stating to an entirely different level by including in this year’s student registration packets a “Student/Parent/Principal Contract for Eliminating Guns and Weapons from School 2013 — 2014″, according to this link from Yahoo News. Included in this missive, touting more in-depth governmental overreach, is this portion directed towards parents of enrolling students:

“I will teach, including by personal example, my teenager about the dangers and consequences of the misuse of guns and weapons, and I will keep any guns I own under lock, away from school grounds and away from my children.”

Yes, that says “I will keep guns away from my children.” It does not say “I will teach my children about the function, uses of, and responsibility and care for guns”. Nope, not at all. Instead, guns are to be viewed as evil bringers of pain and destruction, not the tools they are.

I have to wonder, what happens if a parent refuses to sign said contract? I certainly would not. I refuse to fill out the race portion on my own children’s enrollment packets, and I certainly would not agree to a school system dictating what I should do in my own home. As educators, should that -education- not be their focus? Firearms education used to be taught in schools, while now teachers only instill fear of the unknown. It has been said that we fear that which we do not know, and I would prefer a nation comprised of knowledgeable citizens exercising their Constitutionally-guaranteed rights rather than one made up of a conglomerate of wide-eyed weaklings in fear of the big, bad trigger pulling itself.

I believe the Flowing Wells school district would be wise to watch and listen to 3-Gun shooter Katie Francis. THIS is what gun control should look like to a 13-year-old:

Oh, and she started shooting when she was five- the age at which we learn to write our name, the one you use to sign away rights and personal responsibilities on ridiculous contracts.
