More Health Shock — Enterovirus D68 Now with Paralysis?

See this little boy? He should be playing with friends, enjoying preschool, and thriving in his loving family.

But he won’t ever do those things again. Late last month, little 4-year-old Eli Waller went to bed and never woke up. The cause of death was Enterovirus D68, a virus which has sickened nearly 600 people in over 43 states, with nearly all of them children. Now doctors are concerned that many other EV B68 victims may be affected by paralysis. Dr. Ben Greenberg, a neurologist at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center, worries that we may be seeing this generation’s version of polio, a disease which was practically eradicated after the introduction of vaccine in the 1950’s.

We know the origins of Ebola, but where does EV D68 originate?

The Centers for Disease Control, naturally, are playing Sgt. Schulz as to its modern source. EV D68 was first identified in California in 1962, and only small pockets of the disease have surfaced since then. Some question if the influx of illegal immigrants from South and Central America may be the cause, although officially no one is saying so. However, Sharyl Atkisson points to a study in Virology Journal from 2003 links enteroviruses to Latin America. Surprise, surprise.

We have no travel restrictions on African countries that have Ebola. We have a massive influx of immigrants overwhelming our southern borders. I have previously written about the return of tuberculosis, much of which stems from immigrants from Central America.  And yet there is no move to protect our population on the part of our president.

But before anyone starts flinging the race card at me, consider this: we have a son-in-law whose parents are immigrants from Central and South America — Nicaragua and Colombia, to be precise. However, they came here legally. They are naturalized American citizens. Their extended family is composed of doctors, dentists, engineers, military officers, and business people — a true American immigration success story. And we couldn’t be more proud to consider them as family.

However, they are also not the type of immigrants Obama desires. You see, son-in-law’s parents are conservative, pro life Christians. And the Democrats have no need of them.
