#GoHomeEmily: Actress Emily Blunt Thinks Becoming a U.S. Citizen Was a “Terrible Mistake”

Up until now, the only thing I knew about Emily Blunt is that she was married to “Jim Halpert” (John Krasinski) on The Office. Last month, Blunt became a naturalized U.S. citizen in and now has dual citizenship in Great Britain and in The United States. She has stated her regrets about going through the naturalization process to The Hollywood Reporter at The Toronto Film Festival:

“I became an American citizen recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate, and I thought, ‘This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?'”

She also took to Jimmy Kimmel Live with yet more reservations:

“I’m not sure I’m entirely thrilled about it. People ask me about the whole day. They were like, ‘Oh, it must have been so emotional.’ I was like, ‘It wasn’t! It was sad!’ I like being British.”

How incredibly Hollywood of her! “I liked being American until I saw the GOP debates.” I would not be the least bit surprised if Blunt would have expressed a sentiment totally opposite of her disdain if good ol’ Bernie or Hillary did their political debate bit on the “tele”. Oh, and she said she likes being British! Then, why even try to be the least bit American? There was no shortage of comments on Twitter regarding Blunt’s regrets:
