During the recent escape of El Chapo, the Mexican drug lord his daughter, Rosa Isela Guzman Ortiz, who lives in California recalled the details of his visits to her two times during his escape last summer. Ortiz detailed how El Chapo came to visit her after his famous interview with movie star cum “journalist” Sean Penn last year. Evidently, El Chapo evaded capture with the help of the Mexican government after his interview with Penn and entered California for family visits twice.
Guzman-Oritz also claims that the Mexican officials also accepted donations from her “dear old dad” when they ran for re-election in Mexico as they turned a blind eye to his prison escape.
Not surprisingly Guzman-Ortiz laid out the details of her fathers plan to hand over the reigns of the notorious Sinaloa drug cartel to her half-brother; who was evidently betrayed by the Mexican government; who had broken an agreement to protect El Chapo.
Evidently the story of El Chapo’s California visits during his seven months on the “run” peaked the interest of the border authorities since he was, after all, one of the worlds most wanted fugitives.
“Guzmán Ortiz said her father crossed the border in late 2015 to visit relatives and to view her home, a five-bedroom house with a large garden which he bought for her and her four children. She granted the interview on condition its location not be disclosed.
“My dad deposited the money in a bank account with a lawyer and a while after he came to see the house, his house. He came twice.”
She declined to specify how he criss-crossed the heavily guarded frontier, saying only: “I asked him the same, believe me.”
Evidently El Chapo has further ties to the USA. His third wife, former beauty queen Emma Coronel is a U.S. citizen who gave birth to twins in Southern California in 2011. During this time, Mexican officials had postulated that he was hiding “North of the border”. According to Mexican author, José Reveles, who writes about the Mexican underworld nothing is impossible for El Chapo or any of the other Sinaloa drug cartel leaders. The cartel, he claims, has specialized in boring tunnels and smuggling drug shipments.
Evidently, during his rise from impoverished youth to billionaire drug smuggler, El Chapo bought Mexican political officials at the highest level consistently dispatching underlings to meet with high political officials.
My question is this, why was a highly sought after fugitive, a known leader of a ruthless Mexican drug cartel allowed to traverse our borders multiple times when he was on the lam?
