Early Debate on CNBC

Early Debate on CNBC

Breaking News from the early CNBC debate: Senator Lindsey Graham said “Crap”.

The Happy Hour/Amateur Hour debate on CNBC featured Governors Bobby Jindal and George Pataki and Senators Rick Santorum and Lindsay Graham. The debate at University of Colorado Boulder featured a “free speech zone” across the street with CNBC reporter Jane Wells waiting for the thousands of protesters that didn’t show up. You read that right, CNBC had a reporter covering the Free Speech Zone across the street and she never noted the irony. I thought the United States of America was a Free Speech Zone and that a “journalist” would know that.

Three CNBC hosts, John Harwood, Becky Quick and Carl Quintanilla, led the debate with Jim Cramer, Sharon Epperson, and Rick Santelli as the color announcers. Maybe they were just trying to look serious, but each and every one of the hosts looked really angry to be there.

Pataki started off by interrupting before anything even happened. Pataki and Santorum definitely had the over eager Boy Scout act covered. Jindal looked like he needed a step ladder, not because of his stature, but because he acted like he wanted to show that he was the smartest boy in the classroom…OOOH, OOOH, OOOH! And, Lindsey Graham has the voice the sounds like the buzz of an annoying insect.

The Main Event tonight had better be better than this one. Oof!

Bobby Jindal started off by saying that he is the only one who has cut the size of government. Never again, Governor Jindal. At the first Fox GOP Debate, Dr. Ben Carson ruled on the “only one” statements.

“I’m the only one to separate Siamese twins,” he said to laughter and applause from the audience. “The only one to operate on babies while they were still in the mother’s womb, the only one to take out half of a brain – although you would think if you go to Washington someone had beaten me to it.”

And, Dr. Carson is the only one who has stabbed someone…mic drop.

Lindsey Graham said several times that Obama is a weak leader. Thanks, Senator, we (the GOP base) already knew that.

Former New York Governor George Pataki really loves Big Government. He wants a whole NEW Federal Agency devoted to Cyber Warfare, not a department within an existing agency, but a whole new Federal Agency.

I know that Rick Santorum talked, but my eyes glazed over as soon as he started his gee, golly whiz talking.

CNBC and many others thought that Senator Lindsey Graham won the night because he had a pulse and delivered a couple of good one liners. From the Wall Street Journal Live debate blog:

LIGHTNING ROUND:

Here’s how the candidates answer the question, what three apps do you most use on your cellphone?

Bobby Jindal says he has no iphone and still attached to his Blackberry

Rick Santorum: MLB, NHL and The Wall Street Journal

George Pataki : Uber, Twitter, and communicating with his family

Lindsey Graham: “The only reason I have an iphone is because I gave my number to Donald Trump.”

And Lindsey Graham said “Crap”. CNBC was stoked.

Republican presidential hopefuls took an ax to President Barack Obama’s foreign policy in the CNBC debate, particularly when it came to cybersecurity and relations with China.

“Here’s the problem. We’ve being walked all over because the commander in chief is weak in the eyes of our enemies,” Sen. Lindsey Graham said. “Do you think Putin would be in the Ukraine today if Ronald Reagan were president? Why are the Chinese stealing our intellectual property, hacking into our system? Why are they building islands over resource-rich waters? Because they can get away with it. …. Make me commander in chief and this crap stops.”
