CNN is reporting that a Missouri woman appears to have accidentally shot herself after purchasing a handgun in order to “prepare” for what may be coming in Ferguson.
The female victim, identified in a police report as Becca Campbell, 26, was a passenger in a car involved in an auto accident. Her 33-year-old boyfriend was driving, the sources told CNN.
The boyfriend, who wasn’t identified, told police that the couple had bought a gun because of fears of unrest related to the pending grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown, the sources said.
He told investigators that as they drove late Friday night, the victim waved a gun, jokingly saying the couple were ready for Ferguson, the sources said.
He ducked to get out of the way of the gun and accidentally rear-ended another car. He said the accident caused the gun to go off and she was struck by a bullet in the head, the sources said.
The victim was rushed to a hospital but died.
The story continues to say that police are investigating in order to verify the boyfriend’s account of events.
What was missed by CNN is that Becca Campbell was also a protestor in Ferguson.

Now, why on earth would someone protesting need a gun to be “ready for Ferguson”? And did she really shoot herself with it when the boyfriend rear-ended another car? Let’s just say that something just doesn’t sound entirely truthful about the boyfriend’s story. Was Becca Campbell really waving a gun around that just happened to go off while it was pointing at her head?
Regardless of whether Becca Campbell accidentally shot herself, or she was shot by someone else, this story should serve as a reminder as to why the police have to treat the protesters in Ferguson as serious threats. If people who have previously protested are now “ready” because they have a gun in their hands, these protests will get very ugly, very quickly.
