Sunday Morning Cafe Cocktails

Mimosa, Bloody Mary, nice flute of champagne — or maybe a favorite tipple in your coffee. Make yourself one and join me at our own Algonquin Round Table, the spirit of Dorothy Parker abides.

Happy Sunday, dear friends! And Happy New Year! I hope you saw the end of 2024 in the company of loved ones and with hope in your heart we can get USS America turned in the right direction. Two weeks and we can finally watch the backsides of the Biden’s leaving the White House — and if you think you’ve spotted “Dr” Jill making off with the furniture ala the Clintons, don’t worry. It’s just her wearing one of her couch-cover frocks. Meow, you can pass me some cream. I’ll add it to the Irish Coffee I’m sipping. Unfortunately, we’ll still have to endure Nancy Pelosi. At least the DC liquor store owners are happy. Let me fill up your flutes, pass you plates for this luscious buffet and let’s get to it. Kanpai!

Jennifer Rubin continues to beclown herself

Trump really broke her.

In a talk with raging Trump critic George Conway on “Jen Rubin’s Green Room,” the opinion columnist wondered why ABC News would settle in Trump’s defamation lawsuit against them.

“Why would ABC, Disney, the Mouse, who has more money than God, settle with Donald Trump?” Rubin asked, referring to the network’s agreement to pay $15 million to Trump’s presidential foundation in the defamation case.

“I honestly don’t know,” Conway replied. (snip)

“They are convinced that if they would just move a little bit to the right, all those MAGA readers out there – now you’ll notice the contradiction there, MAGA readers,” she emphasized to audience laughter, “would pick up the Washington Post and they would have more readers.”

“What is the logical fallacy here?” Rubin continued her pontificating. “Yes, reader.”

Well, isn’t she precious? If you voted for Trump, you did so because you’re illiterate.

Another loss for Obama

As part of Obama’s fundamental change of America, he looked to weaken, if not obliterate, the Constitution. Nothing irked President Pen&Phone like people who dared to voice dissenting views. So, in 2016 as his second term was ending, an executive order established the Global Engagement Center. Yet another alphabet Fed agency, this time within the State Department, ostensibly serving the interests of countering “disinformation and misinformation” overseas. Now since my shocked face is on a round-the-world trip and can’t be reached for comment, I’m sure you will be surprised to know the GEC kind of forgot that “overseas only” mandate and was up to its lying lips in suppressing American speech.

Over the last two years, my investigative reporting in the Washington Examiner as well as that of Racket News journalist Matt Taibbi pulled back the curtain of the GEC’s ties to foreign and domestic NGOs trying to defund news outlets they say peddle disinformation – including RealClearPolitics. My reporting showed that the GEC and the State Department-funded National Endowment for Democracy combined granted almost $1 million to the British Global Disinformation Index, which created a blacklist of U.S.-based websites that published content it determined to push “adversarial narratives” and then pressured advertisers to shut them down (think the Hunter Biden laptop story and COVID-19 lab leak hypothesis).

The GEC, moreover, was involved with the Election Integrity Partnership, a consortium of left-wing nonprofit groups, universities, and federal agencies that pressured Twitter and Facebook to remove GOP-aligned content in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election. The GEC also bankrolled New York-based company NewsGuard, a “misinformation” tracker that, along with the Global Disinformation Index, has found itself at the center of a lawsuit brought by the Federalist, the Daily Wire, and the State of Texas against the GEC for allegedly funding an unconstitutional “censorship scheme” that suppressed voices on the right.

The GEC helped interfere in the 2020 election — you know, the most transparent, scandal free, election EVAH?

Finally, happy news as the GEC got their pink slip.

In a reversal, the new version of the short-term spending bill to extend government funding into next year does not include a one-year extension of a government agency accused of “censorship” against conservatives.

No funding, no GEC. But beware, the employees thereof will most likely land in other jobs within the swollen Federal bureaucracy.

Glass half full. Stay vigilant.

Red China is drinking our milkshake

From spy balloons allowed to fly unmolested across America to tens of thousands of illegal Chinese aliens slipping into the country, this is probably only the tip of the iceberg.

An actor affiliated with the Chinese government recently hacked the U.S. Treasury Department in a “major incident,” officials announced on Monday.(snip)

The cybercriminal reportedly gained access to Treasury Department workstations and documents via a security key.

“Once Treasury was alerted by the service provider, we immediately contacted Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and have worked with law enforcement partners across the government to ascertain the impact of this incident,” the spokesperson said.

The news came as the state-affiliated Chinese hackers continue an espionage campaign against the U.S. government. Last week, the White House said that Chinese officials accessed Americans’ private texts and phone conversations through the targeting of a U.S. telecommunications company – the ninth telecom company to be affected by Chinese hacking.

Eulogy for Jimmy Carter? How about a Speaker for the Dead

If you’ve read Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game then you’ll remember the concept of a Speaker for the Dead — a person who takes the time to fully investigate the life of the deceased, then delivers with brutal honesty both the positives and negatives of the deceased. And, boy howdy, do we need one to counter the tsunami of whitewash that is overflowing the late President Carter.

And Jimmy’s hatred of Israel was no secret.

In 2002, Jay Nordlinger noted in “Carterpalooza!” that “No one quite realizes just how passionately anti-Israel Carter is. William Safire has reported that (Carter’s Secretary of State) Cyrus Vance acknowledged that, if he had had a second term, Carter would have sold Israel down the river.” Nordlinger noted of Carter’s close friendship with Arafat, “At their first meeting — in 1990 — Carter boasted of his toughness toward Israel, assuring Arafat at one point, ‘. . . you should not be concerned that I am biased. I am much more harsh with the Israelis.’” Carter even “drafted on his home computer the strategy and wording for a generic speech Arafat was to deliver soon for Western ears,” Carter biographer Douglas Brinkley noted in “The Unfinished Presidency.”

In 2015, Carter said of Hamas terrorist leader Khaled Mashaal, “I don’t believe that he’s a terrorist. He’s strongly in favor of the peace process.” Carter declared he wouldn’t meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because it would be “a waste of time.”

Your Sunday smile

There’s not much more I can add. But bless all the volunteers, friends, and neighbors stepping in where they were needed, especially when Biden’s FEMA has be so conspicuous by its absence. More:

Two families in North Carolina who were impacted by Hurricane Helene received the gifts of a lifetime on Christmas Day – a new place to call home. (snip)

The RV gifted to the Penleys will comfortably fit their family, which consists of two adults, a toddler and a newborn. It has a bedroom on one side of the camper and two sleeping areas on the other side, along with a nice-sized bathroom and a large kitchen area with seating at a table and a couch. (snip)

The second recipient was Timothy McCord, a 70-year-old Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam. Helene tore the roof off of his camper, where he continued to live despite experiencing leaks and other damage.

EmergencyRV traveled to Canton, North Carolina, to gift him a brand-new camper after McCord’s daughter contacted the company explaining that he needed help.

Bravo, everyone!

It has been reported, as a point to counter the impression that the ISIS inspired recent convert to Islam who drove a rented EV Ford F-150 down Bourbon St was somehow related to radical Islamic terrorism, that one of the persons killed was a “devout Palestinian Muslim”.

Having been a somewhat carefree student in New Orleans and living there for a number of years, whose experiences include having visited The French Quarter on New Year’s Eve, and having observed the debauchery (and sometimes more than merely observed), I believe that it is proper to question the assertion that anyone on Bourbon St at 3AM on New Year’s Eve can be described as a “devout” follower on any religion (except, perhaps Satanism – although even Satanists have certain limits).

Jen Rubin hit The Wall a few decades back and even her cats have rejected her.

As for that “Doctor”, this is my response.

“When a Muslim man is in a civilized world and he tries to bring his type of barbarism to our people, the only responsible answer is to put a bullet in his head and drop his body off at the nearest mosque until the rest of them learn better manners.”

    No funding, no GEC.
Except… they appear to have just shifted the funding elsewhere, and those folks are standing up a new “center” to do the old thing.

Oy vey. They are focused on Israel, but what about the former colonies in Africa? He was a big part of turning those over to murderous tyrants and their gangs because “white colonialism.” And now – between nobody knowing how to farm and all the theft and graft – most of those places can’t feed their own people. And none of them are free. (Rhodesia is the one that first comes to mind because I’ve studied that one. But it isn’t the only one. And he helped “free South Africa from apartheid, too.)
And, no, Habitat For Humanity did not earn him much of any credit from me, or a lot of people.

cats can cook their own food
Oh my. That poor, tortured cat! Being forced to eat vegetarian! Cats are omnivores, people! It should be putting some squirrel or rabbit in that stir fry! Poor puddy tat.
(Also, love how the utensil switches back and forth from a spatula to a ladle, depending on the direction it moves. And how the carrots keep coming after all the ones are off the cutting board. At least it didn’t have to show any fingers.)

    Samaritans Purse volunteers
One of the organizations to which we contributed directly, after Helene went through. Good people, indeed.
All those other people are good folks, too. One more example of some large number of Americans being better than our gov’t at charity. And why gov’t shouldn’t be in charity.

    Merry New Year, everyone!
