Obama can’t be bothered to visit with the military… again

Color me unsurprised. Of all the balls Obama attended for his HISTORIC inauguration, he didn’t feel it necessary to attend the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball, a ball started by President Eisenhower, attended by Presidents for 14 straight inaugurations. 56 years later, Obama broke that tradition because apparently mingling with all the celebrities was more important than greeting, say, the 48 Medal of Honor recipients at the Salute to Heroes ball. Yep, 48. Every other President since the ball was started was able to find time on Inauguration Day to go, but not Obama.

Yeah, this guy loves the troops all right. Real respect for our military there. But hey, he did run on a platform of change, after all, and that sure is a change. For the first time in American history, we have a Commander-in-Chief who can’t even fake respect for our heroes who have fought, sacrificed, and died for their country.

Oh, and remember — don’t you ever, ever question his patriotism or his respect for the troops. Not ever.

I heard about this and I was actually surprised, I thought he would atleast attend even if he didn’t really care to. I suppose now that he is President he doesn’t care too much about his image.

  • Rob Farrington says:

Disgraceful…but then again, he doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air as those veterans.

    They’re better off without him.

  • Will says:

Calm down. The Obamas did attend the Commander-In-Chief’s Ball which, according to this Stars and Stripes article, was also attended by several Medal of Honor winners:

The real issue is, why when the Salute to Heroes Ball already existed, did Pres. Bush feel the need to invent the Commander-In-Chief’s Ball in 2005?

  • Rogue Gunner says:

That’s because he is a Socialist. We have them over here in the UK called Labour , yours are called Democrats, same thing `SOCIALISTS` and the one thing they share on both sides of the ocean is a deep seated hatred of the Armed Forces. The Socialist in the UK have almost brought our country into financial ruin and seriously damaged our military capabilities. We made the mistake of voting in Socialists , and now unfortunately its your turn, God Help you!

  • Shannon says:

He attended the Commander-in-Chief ball which is for the military, veterans. No, doesn’t mean I must like Obama for saying that.

  • Alex says:

I would have gone just to check out all the babes in evening gowns! 😀

  • Instinct says:

Oh, I get it Will, it’s all that evil Bush’s fault right?

Maybe because the Commander-in-Chief ball was designed to honor all the military members while the Salute to Heroes was designed to give a special thanks to those who went above and beyond the call of Duty.

But yea, if that EVIL BOOOSH hadn’t created the Comander-in-Chief’s ball then Obambi would have been at the Salute to Heroes one, right?

Once again the left has found away to still blame Bush even though he’s not even president anymore, and it only took two days – that must be a record.

  • Well, Obama and his left can only blame Bush for what? another 6 months or so. After that it’s all THEIRS. When they screw up they don’t have a fall-guy anymore. I’ll be waiting to point ALL fingers their way. As far as Obama not showing up for the ball…the Medal of Honors Winners were better off. Why have a phony there? They were probably glad he didn’t go.

I wish you people would do the research before you blog half truths and lies. True, the President did not attend, but in reality, NOBODY ATTENDED. It was cancelled, and the promoter could not be found.

If anyone is interested in the truth, go to a military website and read for youreself.

Just because hundred of blogs are pushing a story does not make it true. Do your homework or else keep drinking the Right wind Kool_Aide…

The President did meet the military (Commander In Chief Ball) if would like the link, just google it. I have no Kool-Aide for ya all!

  • Faye says:

Bob, I went to the website you referenced http://www.navytimes.com/news/2009/02/military_vetsball_missingorganizer_011909w/ I’m sorry but no where in that article did it reference the “Salute to Honors” Ball but instead referenced the Veterans Ball. I don’t know if they are one in the same, but I’ll keep looking….don’t think your research was through either.

  • Faye says:

Sorry about last comment, meant to say “Salute to Heros” for the Medal of Honor receipients.

  • Faye says:

Bob, also check out http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/8666 where the American Legion(sponsors of the ball that did take place for the Salute to Heros) is quoted as follows:

Craig Roberts, Media Relations Manager for the American Legion, issued the following statement:

The American Legion, as it has on every inauguration evening since 1953, hosted the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Banquet & Ball on January 20th. The quadrennial event is co-sponsored with fourteen veterans service and military service organizations and honors recipients of the Medal of Honor. Forty-seven of these heroes attended this year’s event which was held in the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel.

President Obama was invited but did not attend. Vice-President Joe Biden did appear, however, and was very warmly received. The new President’s absence was understandable considering the unprecedented logistical challenges presented by the vastly increased number of visitors to this inauguration and the necessary attendant security measures. The American Legion, as an organization, does not feel offended or “snubbed.”

I would go further to say that while Craig Roerts says the American Legion did not feel “snubbed”, I believe it would have been nice to see him maintain the pervious tradition of 50 + years and at least have made an appearance there.

  • WayneB says:

Bob, maybe you should pay a little more attention to details yourself. That article you linked was about the Veteran’s Inaugural Ball, not the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball.

In fact, Joe Biden DID attend, but Obama apparently couldn’t fit it in with his 10 others.

  • Steve L. says:

This morning on the radio, a caller brought up this snub. The next caller tried to defend Obama by sayihg, “He’s got so much going on that he can’t be expected to make every event.” With 427 advisors around him, no one told him that he could make some points with the military by going to this ball.

  • Kimberly H. says:

To Will…If you’re so disgusted that Pres. Bush invented the Commander in Cheif Ball, well, look at the one Obama chose to attend…the one you seemingly dislike; then again, do you also not care for the Salute to Heroes Ball?…Just wondering…
