I’m back!

I’m back!

Well folks, I am back from my very, very, very brief vacation. It was great though. The first thing Mike and I did was go to see an Astros game at Minute Maid Park, and it was my first ever Major League Baseball game, as we don’t have an MLB team in Jacksonville. I’m not an Astros fan (Red Sox all the way!), but the game was still fun. The ballpark was absolutely beautiful. And there was a lot of America-loving going on during the game. An Army officer had a live satellite feed from Iraq set up to broadcast an Independence Day message to the 35,000+ crowd there. The first pitch was tossed by an Army soldier who had lost both of his legs, and the baseball was signed by one of the baseball players and given back to him. The National Anthem was sang by yet another serviceman, with a flag the size of a basketball court displayed on the field. And during the seventh-inning stretch, all of the fans joined together in loudly singing America the Beautiful together.

During the game, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet up with the amazing Melissa Clouthier. We’ve been blog buddies for a while, and as soon as I found out I would be in Texas I let her know. She met me at the game with two of her adorable children, and the five of us had a grand ‘ole time at the ball game.

Mike and I spent most of our time with his family, but we stopped in New Orleans on the way home (that’s a whole other post). We ate at an unbelievably good restaurant called The Red Fish Grill, and the food was AMAZING. Mike had the blackened redfish with BBQ oysters, and I had the hickory grilled redfish served with mushrooms, peas, potatoes and topped with crawfish tails and a yummy lemon butter sauce. It was my first trip to New Orleans, and I wanted to have some really great Cajun food. The Red Fish Grill did not disappoint; make sure to stop by if you’re ever in New Orleans. It’s right on Bourbon Street.

So, now I’m back and I’ve got some fun stories to tell, and blogging will now resume. I know you’ve all just been completely lost without me and all. 😉 And now to finish up, here are some pictures from my travels!

I’m looking at your photo of you at your first MLB game remembering the trolls that called you “fat”.

    Phat maybe.

    You’re beautiful inside and out.

  • Hog Whitman says:

You’re not fat. “Corn fed” maybe, but not fat.

Ok, you look great in these pics, but the “Hickory grilled redfish with crawfish tails” pic is the star of this post. Must clean up drool off keyboard.

I’m in Houston and can tell you there is NOT a bad seat at Minute Maid park..then head over to the Bus afterwards for a bevy or 6 and enjoy the night.

    Great pics and awesome site.

I have eaten at the Red Fish Grill. The food was good, but the bread pudding was the highlight. They don’t make it like that here in the PacNW.

You drove all the way to Texas and ate processed fish and a chain dive ! Shameful young lady, shameful ! I can think of a dozen places you coulda’ had some of the best bar-b-que (anything) withing a baseball-throw of Minute Maid park.

…wish I’d know you were headed this way. I’d a stood out on the shoulder of I-10 and waved as you went flyin’ by.

    Red Sox? So disappointing.

Red Sox? I knew I liked you for some reason.

<b<Cassy: I wish I could have met up with you in Houston. We get to Houston regularly for business and Astros baseball. Unfortunately, we were back east and happened to snag tickets to see the Yankees play the Red Sox. YES…I KNOW…You are a Red Sox fan but I became a true Yankees fan at the game. Nothing against the Red Sox, but the game was the most amazing sporting event my lovely bride and I have ever been to. We had to see Yankee Stadium before they tore it down. Don’t worry, we have the Red Sox on our list for our next trip, and YES, we will root for them at Fenway. I am glad you liked Minute Maid Park. It is a great stadium.
