It’s just about that time of year again, when bloggers decide which branch of the military is the best and split into teams. The annual Project Valour-IT fundraiser is around the corner, and the Marine Corps team has found a blogger representing them again in me. This is, of course, because the USMC is far above and beyond the Army and the Air Force, and especially way better than those squids over in the Navy and the puddle jumpers in the Coast Guard!
(I say this, of course, in jest. It’s all in good fun.)
Anyway, for those not familiar with the fundraiser, here’s how it works. You can donate at Soldier’s Angels, or you can donate on a blog that is participating. If you want to help a certain branch win (like, say, the Marine Corps!), then you donate for them. It doesn’t matter in the end, because all funds go to the same account, but whichever branch gets the most donations gets bragging rights, and it needs to be the Marine Corps this year. We got stomped last year, so we need to redeem ourselves.
If you don’t know what Project Valour-IT is, here’s a quick rundown.
Every cent raised for Project Valour-IT goes directly to the purchase and shipment of laptops and other technology for severely wounded service members. As of November 2008, Valour-IT has distributed over 2700 laptops to severely wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines across the country, and is now expanding its mission to include other technology that supports physical and psychological recovery.
… Originally Valour-IT provided the voice-controlled software that accompanies the laptops, but now works closely with the Department of Defense Computer/electronic Accommodations Program (CAP): CAP supplies the adaptive software and Valour-IT provides the laptop. In addition, DoD caseworkers serve as Valour-IT’s “eyes and ears” at several medical centers, identifying patients in need of laptops and other technological support for their recovery.
Wounded soldiers can also request to receive a laptop. As you can see, this is a great charity that is definitely deserving of your generosity. These wounded warriors risked their lives and found themselves injured defending our freedoms. The least we can do is help to make their recovery quicker and easier, and Project Valour-IT definitely does that.
So this year’s fundraiser is gearing up to take off, and here are the bloggers on the USMC team this year, A.K.A., the winning team:
We really want to give the other branches a run for their money, so I can use all your support. We’ll also be making it fun with trivia, jokes, games, stories, videos, and so on. We’ll also be featuring a Marine hero every day. So, see, the Marine Corps team really is the best one! I’m going to keep a countdown running here so you know when the fun kicks off. I’m counting on all of you to help see the Marines to a victory this year!
WHAT???? The Jarheaded, loppy eared, bowl headed Jarines get your support???? I should have known. I’ll bet your grunt has his hand in this? Have you tought him to tell time without the help of Mickey yet?
Cassy you know I am joking. God bless you! Every year I donate to this. But only to Army bloggers. You know Blackfive. Well if yer nice and behave then I’ll drop something to the Jarheads. OK? I’ll split the $100 I donate every year. $10 to you and $90 to Matt. Sound fair? No??? Well the Marines have those pretty uniforms. Aint that enough?
🙂
Well, I’m going to have to stick to the Navy here. I served seven years with them so I’m kinda biased that way.
I actually wanted to join the Marines but when they found out my IQ was higher than my shoe size they said they would have to make me an officer. 😀
Semper Fi to your jarhead and I hope he stays safe wherever the Corps decides to send him.
