Question:
Cassy – how did you meet your man and have you always been a supporter of the U.S. military?
Matt and I met when we were 12 at a friend’s birthday party. He was one of my best friends from then on. We were interested in each other throughout high school, but both of us were too stupid to notice that the other was interested, and so went on dating other people. Matt graduated high school and joined the military, and all the while we remained close friends. We were both unavailable for most of our friendship, and when the opportunity finally arose for us to start a relationship, we jumped in. And I couldn’t be happier. Matt’s a great man and a great Marine.
I would definitely say that I’ve always been a supporter of the military. It has never occured to me not to be. My father served four years in the Marine Corps, my grandfather was a career sailor in the Navy, including during the Korean War, and my brother planned on being a Navy pilot. I come from a family that deeply respects the military. My cousin is now engaged to her own Jarhead, so family get-togethers are always fun, what with the whole Navy vs. Marine Corps thing that always inevitably comes up. I’ve spoken plenty about the level of respect I hold for our servicemen and women, and it’s a respect I’ve held my entire life.
My family’s involvement in the military goes back generations as well. My great-grandfather was a train engineer in WWII (too young for WWI, almost too old for WWII!), one grandfather was in the Navy for 6 years while the other was a career Army man. I have a 2nd cousin that won the Medal of Honor during Vietnam as a Lt in the MASH units. He still gives motivational speeches to this day. 😀 Alas, I blew out a knee a long time ago, so no military for me!
Hi Cassy,
My nephew is a sophmore in high school and wants to joing the marines. I was wondering if there was a website or chat group he could go to – to learn what it is all about from a real marine?
Many Thanks, Nikki
