Mimosa, Bloody Mary, nice flute of champagne — or maybe a favorite tipple in your coffee. Make yourself one and join me at our own Algonquin Round Table, the spirit of Dorothy Parker abides.
Happy Sunday, dear friends! Here we are on Memorial Day weekend. Holy guacamole, dears, how did half of 2026 slip by so fast? And we’ve had another fast week of portside shenanigans, gaslighting, and general eeewwwwww. But be not fatigued by the fuschia-haired, septum ring crowd. We have a feast to share (may I recommend the crab-cake benedict?) and good cheer to sustain us. So pass the plates while I pour the champagne and let’s get to it. L’Chaim!

On the morning of November 1, 2017 Dauntarius Williams woke up to a racist nightmare he would never forget. Outside of his apartment sat his black Dodge Avenger, covered in bright yellow paint:

“GO HOME”
“WHITES ONLY”
“DIE”
“F*CK YOU DUMB N*GGER”
“DATE YOUR OWN KIND”… pic.twitter.com/InbxEXwjfZ— Brad Zerbo (@BradCGZ) May 17, 2026

WOAH 🚨 Gavin Newsom launched a program that spend $23 million dollars on hearing aids for kids
5 years later only 300 hearing aids have been given out
That’s a cost of $76,666 per hearing aid
Retail costs for these same hearing aids is roughly $1,400

California gave ONE nonprofit $1 BILLION.
To put solar panels on poor people's roofs.
You know how much solar they actually installed?
$72 million.
That's it.
So where the FUCK is the other $928 MILLION?
I'll tell you exactly where.

IMPORTANT! It’s long, but a must read.
A Norwegian neuroscientist spent 20 years proving that the act of writing by hand changes the human brain in ways typing physically cannot, and almost nobody outside her field has read the paper.
Her name is Audrey van der Meer.
She runs a brain research lab in Trondheim, and… pic.twitter.com/9FDGAKPA6I

I learned long ago that if I take notes by hand, then go back and transcribe them into a document I can review …
… Hey, I have lousy handwriting but learned touch-typing in 7th grade …
… I really learn and retain the material. This also goes hand-in-hand with teaching kids to read via phonics. Learning a limited set of symbols that have specific sounds allows kids to decode written words easily and quickly and build vocabulary as they go along.
It’s as if the last few decades of publik skool edumacation was dedicated to MISeducating American children.
Ya, think?

Chicago woman mocks Democrats by speaking in a squeaky, high-pitched voice, who say black people's voting rights are in danger.
The woman also called out the commissioners one by one to their faces.

Dears, I don’t know who that woman is, but, boy howdy, I’d love to have her as a neighbor. Clear-eyed common sense and no ducks to give. My kind of lady!

This is infuriating, but on-the-street LEOs have absolutely no say in who they arrest/not arrest. That policy (sometimes even regardless of the law) is set by higher-ups and ultimately by the elected District Attorney in the area.
Oregonians? Remember at the polls who you are really electing when you vote Democrat.

I’m an old lady who remembers my grade school classrooms … where one corner was dedicated to the US space program. First Mercury, then Gemini, and finally Apollo (heck, I was 15 watching Neil Armstrong walk on the moon). I pray to live long enough to see a moonbase built and maybe Americans land on Mars.

Seems appropriate this Memorial Day Weekend to not just Honor and Remember every military member who gave his or her life in service of our nation, but also to honor and remember civilians who went way beyond while giving their lives in service to their fellow Americans.
President Trump announced during a rally in New York that he was posthumously awarding the nation’s highest civilian honor to Welles Remy Crowther, the 9/11 hero. pic.twitter.com/p8NeqcJ0KV

Victory Girls profiled Crowther’s heroism here.
So wonderful that Welles Crowther has been honored posthumously with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
To understand why – simply watch this story that Tom Rinaldi did on Welles, a true American hero! #ForWelles #RedBandana @wbz pic.twitter.com/Pvls92Myab

Oh my, look at the time! Brunch may be over, but the rest of your Sunday awaits. Looks like a wonderful Memorial Day weekend to kick off the summer. Reminds me to start planning some seasonally appropriate menus for the next several brunches. Enjoy yourselves, dears, and let’s meet here next week. Cheers!
