Trump’s tweets and his two good cabinet choices for EPA and DHS

Twitter apparently is fun for President elect Donald Trump. And his twitter fights are epic. Unfortunatley, the media focuses on these tweets and ignores what he and his transition team are doing that is good. Like the DHS and EPA picks. Retired Marine General John Kelly for DHS, who Victory Girl Nina discussed here and Scott Pruitt from Oklahoma for the EPA are great choices. Problem is that Trump himself is off fighting with the media and the United Steelworkers President who leads the union at Carrier. But we know Trump reverts to middle school when he tweets. That should not surprise anyone. I checked and nothing about either Kelly or Pruitt on his official Twitter feed. And that is a shame.

The problem here is that any good things Trump does are easy to ignore in favor of the tweetstorms. Ben Shapiro tweeted the following (I agree with Mr. Shapiro):

Precisely Ben.  Unfortunately, Trump and the Media are going for low hanging fruit.  To give credit where credit is due, the DHS and EPA pick are very good choices.  When their prospective boss grows up and stops the tweets and acting the fool they will be even better choices in my opinion.

Three reasons why the DHS and EPA picks are good:

  1. DHS is a perfect place for a retired Marine. That agency needs someone who knows security and knows about leadership and nobody does it better than the Marines. General Kelly leads by example. Maybe just maybe the agency will be less likely to have situations like this or this or this
  2. The EPA is out of control. Overstepping its mandate time and time again. Trump’s comment in the Washington Post was quite interesting. He said

Pruitt “will reverse this trend and restore the EPA’s essential mission of keeping our air and our water clean and safe.” Trump added, “My administration “strongly believes in environmental protection, and Scott Pruitt will be a powerful advocate for that mission while promoting jobs, safety and opportunity.”

That would be my hope as well. If Mr. Trump can step back from Twitter.

3. Neither of these candidates are enmeshed in Beltway games. They are however able to work within the system and hopefully will be ethically grounded enough to make a substantial and lasting positive change.

I like having a solution and not just bitching about things. So here is my thought: It would be great if The Real Donald Trump focused on how he proposes to change things and not be focused on his tweets and feuds. And he can stop tweeting stupid stuff anytime. Please!

I enjoy Trump’s tweets and I’m glad the press is keeping on him about accuracy. This will teach him what he can and cannot share. Most people dont have to edit themselves as twitter followers are quick to point out mistakes or let them go as unimportant. Let Trump tweet!!

As Glenn Reynolds noted frequently this year, the only person who can really be President is a white, male, Republican – since that’s the only way to get the press to do their job.
