The Select Committee Moves Forward

Monday evening, President Obama was off doing what he does best – fund-raising.  This time, though, it was off of Benghazi.  Didn’t we hear just a few weeks ago how abhorrent it was that the Republicans were going to be using Benghazi as a fund-raising tool?  I suppose when the President uses the tragedy of four dead Americans it’s okay.  Oh, but wait, that’s not exactly what he is doing now, is it.  He is using Benghazi in a different context, hush Benghazi, hush.  Just sweep the dead under the rug and forget about them.  Benghazi and Obamacare, he wanted to assure his donors, (65 of them at $10,000 a plate) are settled, and the debates are pointless.

“The debate we’re having now is about what, Benghazi? Obamacare? And it becomes this endless loop. It’s not serious. It’s not speaking to the real concerns that people have,” said Obama.

This report from the GAI from January tells us that the President failed to attend daily intelligence briefings for 5 days prior to the attacks.  Had he attended those meetings, would he have learned that Al-Qaeda was there and ready to attack again?  Or was keeping to his own narrative that Al-Qaeda is on the run far more important than listening to the truth?

Release of the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) Benghazi timeline comes as a new Senate report published Wednesday concluded that “the attacks were preventable.”

Every story the Obama Administration has put out about Benghazi, even though they may have won him an election, has failed the truth test and will lose elections in the end.  He may want to stop the debate, but we won’t and neither will Trey Gowdy and his team.  Dude, it may have happened two years ago, but this has just begun.

Nancy Pelosi finally relented and chose her 5 panel members for the Benghazi select committee.

Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), Ranking Member, Committee on Oversight & Government Reform

Adam Smith (D-WA), Ranking Member, Armed Services Committee

Adam B. Schiff (D-CA), Committee on Appropriations (Subcommittee on State & Foreign Operations), Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence

Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA), Committee on Ways and Means (Subcommittee on Oversight)

Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Armed Services Committee, Committee on Oversight & Government Reform

There was a delay in negotiations as Pelosi was trying to finagle the committee rules for more leverage for the Democrat side. She wanted to gain more control over the direction of the committee’s work and to get equal power and authority.  She didn’t allow these things when they held the select committee on global warming.  Isn’t she just lovely?

From Hot Air:

Besides, the VA scandal and the parallels to White House inaction are rapidly eroding the outrageous-outrage claims of Democrats who argue that the Benghazi probe is just about politics. The more that Barack Obama’s statements and (in)action on the VA follow the same pattern as Benghazi, IRS, and other scandals, the more it looks like Democrats are the ones playing politics with the deaths of Americans. That, plus losing control of the narrative, make it far more incumbent on Pelosi to participate than for Boehner to bend over backwards to accommodate her demands.

Despite the president’s airy dismissal of the Benghazi select committee, and despite Nancy Pelosi’s attempt to call it “shameful,” the Democrats know that they cannot afford to look like they ignored the select committee.  After all, President Obama doesn’t have to run for re-election again, but all the Democrats in the House do.

This is where “obstruction” becomes “counterbalance”.

Tea Party must fight fire with fire. The Dimocrats create the rules to give them control. Then Dims change the rules in the middle to give them more control.

Pelosi wanted to have control, but that wasn’t going to happen and she knew it, she had no choice but to assign members to this panel, and she knew that too.
Their backs are up against the wall with so many scandals right now, I’m loving it! I hate that people had to die because of their negligence, but it is their watch.
