Smug White Liberals: Who is On The High Horse Again?

A few weeks ago, I lamented how I have come to be a Conservative Republican. The circumstances that brought me from being a Democrat and fairly liberal were life circumstances. Hard work, trials, love of my family and a fond appreciation for this country we live in. Yet, so often, Conservatives are seen as being the elitists on their high horses. We’re all looking down on people and judging them and throwing our money and our faith in God around in the faces of “the little people”. We hide behind our guns, our Constitution which is “racist” and are deliberately trying to keep the little man under our thumbs so we can get the bigger piece of the pie. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

I have a few uber-liberal friends on Facebook who just love to rip on Capitalism and Christianity. Since Bernie did not make the cut, this particular wackadoo has taken an aggressive approach to hiding behind his keyboard and ripping on Christians every chance that he can get. Including calling God the inarguably worst word in the English language and sharing cross-burning videos because it’s cool to hate Jesus. (Didn’t the KKK burn crosses?) He will gladly make fun of a group of women minding their own business holding a Bible study in a Starbucks and move on to a post about corporate greed. Yes, after he checked in at Starbucks! And, because he believes in science and is a scientist, he is smart. Smarter than the average American, you see. Every one else in this world is stupid. And if you are a Christian and did not vote for Barack Obama, you are a special kind of stupid in his world. Out of idle curiosity, after a post lauding the first African-American president and diversity, I peeped at his Facebook friends list to hopefully find the diverse group of people of different ethnic backgrounds that he so says he supports. Every single on of his friends are…well…

White. Very White.

Nikki Johnson-Huston, Esq. penned a very poignant piece about the “Smug, White Liberal” a few days ago and had this to say:

The White Liberal culture encourages talking about diversity and shaming others for their alleged racism, but many times they themselves work in environments that are mostly white. When questioned they’ll defensively state that they promote strictly on merit. Black people aren’t suggesting that we want someone unqualified to get the position, but I find it telling that they assume that we are not qualified. These same Liberals are quick to be against school choice, while their kids go to private or well-regarded public schools. Leaving poor black children behind in underperforming schools and providing less opportunity to improve their lives is inconsequential to keeping true to their white liberal politics. Many people are quick to espouse the political values of liberalism without having to live with the often harsh reality of those policies.

For so long, as a Black American, I have been told that the problem is Conservative Republicans. While I’ll admit they may have done little to try to improve African-American lives, they also don’t promise to every election season like the liberal elites. Instead we have given our loyalty and votes to Democrats, who paternalistically tell us they want to help us, but we have little to show for it since blacks started voting Democrat back in the 1960’s. I have never lived in a city as an adult that was run by Conservatives or Republicans, but I live in the biggest poor city in the country, Philadelphia. A city, for decades, run by liberal insiders.

The smugness continues. For liberals, Donald Trump is an easy target. He’s white, he’s rich and he opens his mouth and makes himself an even easier target. But whilst Hillary Clinton was MIA and Barack Obama was in Martha’s Vinyard on the golf course (but he wrote a memo), Trump and Pence did go to hand out a truckload of aid to Louisiana flood victims this past weekend and I say, good on them for doing so. I may not agree with some of the things Trump says and his approach to some of our key issues but I will say this: HE SHOWED UP WHEN NO ONE ELSE DID. Liberals? You want to know what they said? They went off on him for wearing a “suit jacket” and handing out Play-Doh to displaced kids!

Some liberals even went off on the amount of time Trump and Pence spent handing out the items. (Of course, the whole truck load was nothing but Play-Doh.) It was two minutes. It was 46 seconds. Was it a photo op? Perhaps? But they showed up. So, you see folks, the smugness continues. Our elitist FEMALE politician may have written a check, but she could not be bothered this weekend to be among the common, working-class people who lost their homes. She needs rest if she’s going to be the future POTUS. These are the very same people she says she will advocate for. Our first African-American messiah-President? He took time out of one of his last chances to “relax” as POTUS and wrote a memo. The same working-class African Americans he claims to support? Well, he could not give them the time of day. But our smug, white liberals who sit in their Brooklyn lofts behind their keyboards and hammer away would not recognize a good deed from the opposite side of the fence if it hit them square between the eyeballs.

But they know what’s best for America, you see. Why? They are the educated ones a and they and their little white elitist pals will continue to utter “diversity” and “inclusion” and be the social justice warriors for the “commoners” because they care. (How much does a rental loft in Brooklyn go for these days?) We Conservatives need to get off our high horses already and be caring, compassionate, hard-working people like white liberals who love everybody while hating those who do not fall in line with them. But we’re the ones on our high horses.

Why? They are the educated ones….

They are the aristocracy. Or, technocracy if you prefer.

This tendency toward believing you are – by virtue of your big brain and big heart – the one who should direct everyone else’s lives seems to be a natural tendency among humans. Especially ones educated in the post-enlightenment West.
It’s a tendency that should be stamped out ruthlessly at every opportunity.

“Scientists” really care, and so are privileged to mock people of faith, since they don’t help or care for those in need. You apparently missed the news reports for Louisiana showing “The Union of Concerned Scientists Navy” rescuing thousands of flood victims, and when Mr. Trump made a large donation to the Greenwell Springs Concerned Scientists Chapter to support their continuing efforts to help the victims.

OK, snark off. But, I’m sure he’s doing the correct virtue signaling on Twitter. When you don’t do anything to help, it’s an easy way to tell everyone how much good you’d do if you did anything.
